Qatari Sheikha Asma scales Mt. Lhotse soon after conquering Mt. Everest

Less than 24 hours after reaching the summit of Mt Everest, The Qatari mountaineer Sheikha Asma bint Thani al-Thani has become the first Qatari woman to scale Mt Lhotse, the fourth highest mountain in the world at 8,516m, situated between Tibet and the Khumbu region of Nepal. 

On May 27, Sheikha Asma bint Thani Al Thani became the first Qatari woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest, in a historic achievement, Qatari media reported.

The Qatar flag has been raised on top of the highest mountain peak on earth, at a height of 8,849m. 

“Everest- A dream I have been working on for quite some time,” Sheikha Asma captioned in an Instagram post.

In May last year, Sheikha Asma also attempted to summit Mount Everest but had to cancel the expedition due to extreme weather conditions which deemed the mountain unsafe to climb.

Recently, Sheikha Asma became the first Arab to reach the summit of Mount Kangchenjunga – the world’s third-highest peak located between Nepal and India at an elevation of 8,586m. In January, she had become the first Qatari to ski to both the North and South poles.
