Dubai heightens its efforts to leverage AI in business and the public sector

The Accelerator Programs of Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI) have attracted 615 startups from 55 countries since its launch earlier this year. Out of this pool, 30 startups have secured spots to participate in the eight-week initiative that focuses on AI applications in the government and media sectors.

Unveiled by the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), the DCAI Accelerator Programs consist of two streams. First is the Future of Generative AI in Government Services and second is the Future of Generative AI in Media and Communications. The former aspires to make Dubai a global leader in government services, prioritizing speed, quality, and efficiency through technology. On the other hand, the latter explores the latest practices in media content creation and leverages AI for data analysis and strategic planning.

Chosen startups and entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to work and collaborate at AREA 2071. This is a co-creation space complete with physical areas, labs, meeting spaces, and state-of-the-art infrastructure.

Empowering startups

Dubai’s AI Accelerator Programs are a collaborative effort between DCAI and Dubai Future Accelerators, an initiative by DFF. Their launch follows the establishment of the DCAI by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He also sits as the chairman of the Dubai Executive Council and chairman of the Board of Trustees of DFF.

“This global initiative empowers startups and entrepreneurs from around the world, enhancing Dubai’s leadership in employing future technology to keep pace with rapid changes in various sectors,” stated Saeed Al Falasi, the director of DCAI.

For the programs, a dedicated committee composed of AI application experts evaluates projects submitted by startups. Successful applicants will receive invitations to Dubai. While in the city, they will collaborate closely with government agencies to develop their projects further and prepare them for implementation.

Meanwhile, in the Gulf region, Saudi Arabia  has its own array of AI projects. Its Vision 2030 places a strong emphasis on technology and innovation. One of their notable projects is NEOM. It is a futuristic city under development that is set to be a global hub for AI, emerging technologies, and sustainability.

The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority and the National Technology Development Program also recently announced the launch of GAIA. This generative AI early-stage accelerator program offers mentorship, financial grants, and legal support.
