Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport hosted a senior delegation from China to officially inaugurate the launch of the ‘Meet Me in Shanghai’ event. The experience is taking place from May 6 to May 20 and invites travelers to explore Shanghai’s vibrant culture and cosmopolitan allure. This visit highlighted the strong economic and cultural ties between Abu Dhabi and Shanghai, and enhanced tourism and trade opportunities.

Improving travel ties

During the meeting with the Chinese delegation, Elena Sorlini, managing director and CEO at Abu Dhabi Airports, expressed enthusiasm for hosting the ‘Meet Me in Shanghai’ pop-up at Zayed International Airport. She emphasized the event’s role in enriching the passenger experience and fostering cultural exchange. With the direct connection between Abu Dhabi and Shanghai offering five weekly flights, the event aims to further facilitate seamless travel between the two cities.

Enhanced collaboration

For his part, Feng Xin, president of Shanghai Airport Authority (SAA), expressed the importance of the agreement SAA signed with Abu Dhabi Airports last December. The agreement aims to encourage communication and cooperation of airport management, operation and marketing. Xin also highlighted the ‘Meet Me in Shanghai’ pop-up event as the first promotional event to inaugurate the agreement. “We envision that through our collaborative efforts, a warm and amicable relationship between Shanghai and Abu Dhabi will be fostered, leading to increasing flights that will bring us closer together,” Xin added.

The current surge in global travel demand provides further momentum for strengthening the relationship between China and Abu Dhabi. Hence, investments, trade alliances, and cultural exchanges are driving the deepening of ties between the two nations. The ‘Meet Me in Shanghai’ campaign not only showcases Shanghai’s charm but also emphasizes the importance of enhancing travel convenience and airport experience for travelers worldwide.
