Abu Dhabi Airports, the operator of the five airports in the Emirate, has announced results regarding passenger traffic in the first quarter of 2024. During this period, the Abu Dhabi Airports’ network facilitated travel for over 6.9 million passengers, representing a growth of 35.6 percent compared to the same period in 2023, when the number stood at 5.1 million.

The surge in flight movements was also notable, with 61,737 recorded in the first quarter of 2024, reflecting an 11.4 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2023. This positive trend can be attributed to the strong demand for both passenger and commercial services on a global scale.
Zayed International Airport alone welcomed over 6.8 million passengers during the first quarter of 2024. The newly launched terminal at Zayed International Airport has contributed to its reputation as a leading hub, evident by the substantial increases of 26.6 percent in flight movements and 36.0 percent in passenger traffic.
During Q1 2024, Zayed International Airport expanded its roster of airlines, with Turkmenistan Airlines returning and Hainan Airlines launching operations to Haikou, China. This brings the total number of regular scheduled operators to 29 airlines.
London maintained its position as the top destination city, with approximately 290,000 passengers traveling to and from the English capital. Other popular destinations included Mumbai, Kochi, Delhi, and Doha.
Continuous success in attracting airlines, passengers
Elena Sorlini, managing director and chief executive officer at Abu Dhabi Airports, expressed satisfaction with these figures, highlighting the continuous success of the airports in attracting more airlines and passengers from around the world. Abu Dhabi Airport remains committed to investing in its facilities and services to enhance the passenger experience and overall value proposition, catering to existing airline partners and customers while also attracting new ones. With strong results in the first quarter, the airport group is well-prepared for future growth and success.
In addition to passenger growth, cargo traffic also experienced significant expansion in Q1 2024, with a total of 162,000 tons of air freight handled across all airports. This represents a notable increase of 25.6 percent compared to the same period in 2023 when the figure stood at 129,000 tons.
These achievements underscore the Emirate’s role in facilitating global trade and commerce, driven by rising shipments of general cargo and specialized products such as express deliveries, temperature-controlled goods, and pharmaceuticals.
