Abu Dhabi Airports has unveiled a strategic partnership with the Shanghai Airport Authority (AVINEX). The collaboration aims to leverage common interests and capitalize on opportunities within the aviation sector. The official announcement came through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), solidifying the commitment of both parties to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Objectives and focus

The partnership aims to tap into the complex expertise of both airports, encompassing know-how, operations, and marketing. Collaboration initiatives include the development of passenger and freight businesses and the promotion of effective transfer products and services. Moreover, Abu Dhabi Airports and AVINEX will execute joint marketing initiatives aimed at boosting tourism between the landmark destinations served by the airports.

Knowledge exchange

Elena Sorlini, managing director and Interim CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, expressed her enthusiasm for the agreement. “We are pleased to be signing this agreement with AVINEX of Shanghai so soon after launching the new Terminal A at Abu Dhabi International Airport,” Sorlini stated.

Towards a shared future

The MoU looks beyond a one-time collaboration, emphasizing the need for continuous cooperation between Abu Dhabi Airports and AVINEX. The goal is to develop a compatible and efficient air transport system that not only exchanges but also adopts best practices. This ensures sustained growth and development in both regions.

Feng Xin, CEO of AVINEX, expressed his delight at the prospect of promoting the integration of route networks between the two airports. “We hope that more Chinese airlines can establish hub operation cooperation with Etihad Airways at this new terminal,” Xin added. He outlined the shared goals of enhancing accessibility, improving hub operation quality, and stimulating the growth of passenger and freight markets. That is particularly important as Shanghai airports resume international flights at full speed.

As the aviation industry undergoes dynamic shifts, the Abu Dhabi Airports and AVINEX collaboration sets a precedent for international partnerships. By fostering knowledge exchange and joint initiatives, the airports aim to build an ecosystem of hub operation. This creates prosperity in the aviation market and shares the achievements of their developmental cooperation. The MOU marks a milestone in the pursuit of excellence and innovation in the global aviation landscape.
