Abu Dhabi Airports, Abu Dhabi’s commercial airport operator, has announced the appointment of Elena Sorlini as its managing director and chief executive officer (CEO). Sorlini, who has been serving in an interim capacity since June 2023, brings over 20 years of experience to her new role. Her appointment comes following the successful  launch of Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Terminal A.

Steadfast leadership

During her interim tenure, Sorlini oversaw the successful opening of Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Terminal A. The terminal is a state-of-the-art facility that can accommodate up to 45 million passengers annually. Under her guidance, the airport continues to witness steady growth in passenger traffic numbers, reflecting the emirate’s robust aviation sector. Furthermore, Sorlini’s efforts have attracted new airlines and routes to Abu Dhabi, including Air France.

H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, chairman of the Board of Directors of Abu Dhabi Airports, expressed confidence in Sorlini’s leadership. He highlighted Sorlini’s track record of success in the aviation sector. Moreover, he emphasized her pivotal role in advancing Abu Dhabi’s position as a global tourism destination and a leading aviation hub.

Sorlini’s vision

In her official statement, Sorlini reiterated her commitment to unlocking the full growth potential of Abu Dhabi’s tourism and trade industry. “The capital boasts a wealth of offerings and a strong reputation for excellence and innovation. Our airports truly serve as gateways to rich cultural heritage and commercial opportunities. I look forward to contributing to the recognition of Abu Dhabi International Airport as one of the best airports in the world,” she added.

Sorlini’s experience

Sorlini brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She has held senior management positions in prominent organizations within the aviation sector. Her previous roles include Executive Director of Transport & Logistics at ADQ and Vice President of Group Corporate Strategy at Oman Aviation Group. She also served as Strategy Director at Copenhagen Airports. In addition, Sorlini served as Vice President at Macquarie Airports.  Additionally, Sorlini serves on the boards of Etihad Airways, Abu Dhabi Aviation, and ADQ Aviation and Aerospace Services.
