Abu Dhabi’s Traffic Safety Technical Committee has launched a work accelerators plan to improve traffic safety across the emirate. Abu Dhabi’s work accelerators involve the development and execution of interactive plans among teams from various relevant government entities in Abu Dhabi to tackle road safety challenges.

Six key areas

The plan includes intensive programs in six key areas:

  • Analyzing traffic accidents and extracting lessons learned
  • Enhancing pedestrian and micro-mobility safety
  • Ensuring delivery drivers’ safety
  • Improving freight transport safety
  • Addressing driver behavior
  • Reviewing road speed limits

Leaders and experts in traffic safety will lead Abu Dhabi’s work accelerators plan. The plan will include three stages: design, acceleration and delivery. The initiative promotes the integration and collaboration of national governmental and private efforts to provide immediate and urgent solutions to existing traffic safety challenges. Moreover, it seeks to establish a timeframe for implementing plans and then evaluate the results.

Notably, the joint committee includes members from Abu Dhabi Mobility, the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police (Abu Dhabi Police), and the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH).

Key outcomes

Abdulrahman Al Shizawi, head of the Traffic Safety Technical Committee at DMT, emphasized that the committee has also established an accelerator teams to create urgent plans that bypass routine procedures. He added that the plan also aims to reduce the number of traffic accidents that result in injuries, reduce the negative social and economic impacts of accidents, and enhance the quality of life in Abu Dhabi.

The joint committee also aims to prioritize continuous testing and application of modern methods and systems to reduce accidents. This ensures smooth and safe mobility for all road users in Abu Dhabi. In addition, it seeks to improve educational programs and awareness campaigns to promote safe driving practices across the emirate.
