The General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs witnessed a remarkable 37 percent growth in digital customs transactions at the border crossings of Abu Dhabi in the first half of 2023. This achievement reflects a significant increase of 35.8 percent in the clearance of goods transactions and a notable growth of 20 percent in customs clearance requests in free zone areas compared to the same period in 2022.

During the first half of the current year, Abu Dhabi Customs experienced a 6 percent growth in customs declarations. Additionally, pre-arrival clearance transactions constituted 38 percent of the overall customs clearance transactions at all customs centers throughout the emirate.

During the first half of the current year, pre-arrival customs clearance made significant contributions, comprising 57 percent of exit declarations and 22 percent of entry declarations. This development is particularly noteworthy as it includes the introduction of a digital clearance feature aimed at non-residents and unregistered companies from outside the UAE. These efforts are part of the “Abu Dhabi Programme for Effortless Customer Experience,” enhancing convenience for customers.

The General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs highlighted that the growth rates witnessed during the initial six months of 2023 are indicative of the broader economic growth in the country, particularly in Abu Dhabi, spanning across various sectors.

These initiatives are aimed at strengthening the UAE’s position within the global economic landscape, aligning with the goals of the UAE Centennial 2071 and the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision. These visions aspire to elevate the country’s stature as a prominent global hub and a compelling and influential economic center.
