The UAE’s Ministry of Community Development has announced the activation of a unified electronic linkage system for approving parking permits for people of determination between the emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The two emirates implemented the linkage in coordination with the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (ZHO).

This initiative falls in line with ongoing efforts to support the nation’s drive toward sustainability and digital transformation.

Abdullah Al Humaidan, secretary-general of Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, stated that the activation of the electronic linkage between Abu Dhabi and Dubai is an important step towards providing better services for people of determination. Al Humaidan expressed gratitude to the partners who contributed to achieving this milestone, which represents a qualitative leap in government services.

Greater quality of life

Abu Dhabi and Dubai’s unified parking permit system seeks to facilitate flexible and independent access for people of determination to public facilities. This enhances their quality of life and affirms the UAE’s commitment to providing innovative and advanced services.

The electronic linkage allows people of determination to use designated parking spaces in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai without the need to display paper permits. This makes their movement between the two emirates easier and improves their use of public facilities.

“Strengthening and activating the interconnection between Abu Dhabi and Dubai for the approval of parking permits for people of determination falls within the TRA’s efforts to achieve integration and cooperation among concerned entities, contributing to the delivery of more effective and efficient services,” stated Mohammed Al Zarooni, deputy director-general of the information and digital government sector at the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority.

The new system also provides a unified database for parking permits for people of determination between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This enhances integration and cooperation among relevant entities and also contributes to more effective and efficient services.

The project is a new step in promoting digital transformation and adopting modern technologies in government services. It also contributes to the delivery of more innovative and efficient services that cater to the needs of people of determination, with the aim of improving the quality of life in the UAE.

Who can benefit from the new parking permit system?

The project identifies the beneficiaries of the linkage service as those who hold cards proving their status as people of determination. It includes all people of determination who hold either paper or electronic parking permits from Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Additionally, people of determination from any other emirate who have valid permits from the relevant authorities in their emirate can also benefit from the designated parking spaces in Abu Dhabi.

“Our aim is to elevate the experience of people of determination in accessing and utilizing parking facilities. This initiative reflects our commitment to social responsibility by leading in the provision of integrated digital services and setting a global standard for unified customer experiences,” commented Mohamed Al Ali, CEO of Parkin.
