Scalable capacity

Situated in a geothermal-rich area of Kenya, the EcoCloud-G42 mega data center will initially have a capacity of 100 megawatts, with the possibility of expanding to 1 gigawatt. The project further utilizes the Earth’s heat, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and minimizing carbon emissions.

The signing of the agreement took place with the participation of Peng Xiao, Group CEO of G42, and Amos Siwoi, CEO of EcoCloud. Also present were President William Ruto and Dr. Salim Alnaqbi, the UAE Ambassador to Kenya.

This initiative will establish Kenya’s digital infrastructure. It will lay the groundwork for an ecosystem encompassing cloud services and artificial intelligence. It also aims to generate economic opportunities, foster innovation, and propel the digital economy forward.

Cutting-edge technology

Peng Xiao, Group CEO of G42, expressed pride in the strategic partnership with EcoCloud, emphasizing the combination of cutting-edge technology with sustainability. The geothermal-powered data center represents a significant milestone in unlocking Kenya’s potential as a global digital hub and achieving their mission of making intelligence accessible to everyone, everywhere, he further added.

Commitment to sustainability

Amos Siwoi, CEO of EcoCloud, highlighted the collaboration as a major step in their commitment to sustainability and innovation. By harnessing geothermal energy, they meet the region’s data requirements. Additionally, they set a new standard for environmentally friendly infrastructure. This partnership also underscores their dedication to a greener, more sustainable future for Africa and beyond, according to Siwoi.
