Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa University among top 150 globally in engineering; top in UAE in engineering, computer science & physical sciences

Khalifa University of Science and Technology has announced that it has achieved the highest rankings in the UAE for three subjects: Engineering, Computer Science, and Physical Sciences, according to the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject for 2025.

This year’s rankings highlight Khalifa University’s Engineering program, which has risen to the 126-150 range. Additionally, Khalifa University’s Computer Science program has secured its position in the 176-200 band for the very first time. The Physical Sciences program has also made a notable leap to the 176-200 band.

The ‘THE’ subject rankings assess universities based on a variety of core disciplines, within each specific subject area.

Prof. Ebrahim Al Hajri, president of Khalifa University, expressed his enthusiasm: “We are delighted to achieve top rankings in the UAE and to be placed among some of the top-ranking global universities. The significant achievement in rankings reiterates our deep-rooted commitment to excel in all academic programs. This achievement is congruent with the UAE’s vision to become a global pioneer in various areas, and more specifically in research and education.”

Khalifa University ranks 27th worldwide in young university rankings

In May 2024, Khalifa University of Science and Technology announced that it has ranked 27th globally and holds the top position in the MENA region in the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings for 2024, advancing 22 slots from last year’s 49th place.

The “THE Young University Rankings” feature the world’s leading universities that are 50 years old or younger, applying the same 13 performance indicators as the flagship “THE World University Rankings.”

Khalifa University achieves top ranking in Asia University Rankings

Also in May 2024, Khalifa University of Science and Technology reported that it has moved up five slots, achieving the top rank in the UAE and 40th in Asia in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings for 2024. This ranking evaluated 739 universities from 31 countries and territories.

Khalifa University has also improved four places to be ranked 2nd among Arab universities listed in the “THE Asia University Rankings 2024.” With three colleges—namely the College of Engineering and Physical Science, College of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, and College of Medicine and Health Sciences—Khalifa University continues to lead in providing an exceptional research environment in the UAE.

In conjunction with the ASPIRE Virtual Research Institute, there are 12 Core Research Centres dedicated to various fields, promoting collaboration and innovation across disciplines.

Khalifa University’s petroleum engineering department ranked 8th globally

In March 2024, Khalifa University of Science and Technology announced that its Petroleum Engineering department has been ranked 8th in the world by the 2023 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject for Engineering and Technology.

The Petroleum Engineering program at Khalifa University features a modern and well-rounded curriculum that underscores not only the fundamentals of petroleum engineering but also the business processes necessary for achieving optimal engineering solutions for field development and operations.

At the same time, Khalifa University’s Electrical and Electronics Engineering program has been ranked 99th in the world among the top 100 by the 2023 QS Subject Rankings. The Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) Department at Khalifa University provides BSc degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering (with an optional concentration in Software Systems), and Computer Science, in addition to MSc and PhD programs.
