Egypt is set to welcome a new 200-megawatt wind farm in the Gulf of Suez, as announced by the Egyptian Cabinet. The project, a collaboration between Abu-Dhabi’s prominent clean energy company Masdar and Infinity Power, was formalized at a signing ceremony in New Alamein City. This agreement further marks another significant step in Egypt’s ongoing efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio.

Infinity Power has secured a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC). This agreement paves the way for a long-term supply of renewable energy generated by a significant onshore wind project in Ras Ghareb, located in the Gulf of Suez region of Egypt.

Infinity Power is a joint venture between Egypt’s Infinity and Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company).

The wind farm, once operational, will boast a capacity of 200MW, generating an estimated 810,000MWh of electricity annually. Additionally, this clean energy source is projected to prevent the release of 403,672 tonnes of CO2eq emissions per year, aligning with Egypt’s commitment to sustainable development.

In addition, this latest venture marks a significant expansion of Infinity Power’s footprint in Egypt’s renewable energy sector, complementing its existing 252MW West Bakr wind farm.

Furthermore, as the largest renewable energy company in Africa, Infinity Power is aiming to achieve 10GW of operational renewable energy by 2030, representing a $5 billion investment. This ambitious goal will provide clean electricity to 12 million homes across the African continent by the end of the decade, resulting in a further reduction of 15 to 20 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
