Abu Dhabi-based Presight, a leading global big data analytics company powered by AI, recently signed a letter of engagement with Albania’s Ministry of Interior to implement a nationwide AI-powered smart city project.

The project is set to digitize urban infrastructure, enhance traffic management and modernize public services. In doing so, Albania will become one of Europe’s leading adopters of artificial intelligence and smart national infrastructure.

The letter of engagement was signed yesterday in Tirana in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Excellency Mr. Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania.

Project to cover 20 cities across Albania

Presight’s smart city initiative will cover 20 cities across Albania and will deliver community-wide benefits from reduced traffic and congestion to faster emergency response times. The AI-powered nation-building project will also enhance Albania’s sustainability and digital transformation agenda while introducing efficiencies across public services.

The project includes an AI-powered smart city and traffic management platform, enabling real-time urban operations monitoring, streamlining essential public services, reducing traffic congestion and enhancing road safety. It also encompasses an advanced command and control center that will utilize cutting-edge AI to centralize decision-making for public service operations, emergency response and infrastructure management.

“Albania is embarking on one of Europe’s most ambitious smart nation transformations, leveraging AI to drive economic growth, efficiency, and community well-being. Presight is honored to support this vision, bringing our proven expertise in AI-driven urban management to empower Albania’s digital future,” stated Thomas Pramotedham, CEO of Presight.

Urban travel time in Albania’s cities to decline

Presight’s AI-powered smart nation solutions will help Albania become a global benchmark for digital-native countries. The framework for the model to be deployed in Albania will build upon global best practice smart city design principles and the lessons learned from the deployment of AI infrastructure across Abu Dhabi and the UAE.

Through the responsible and ethical implementation of AI solutions, Albania’s citizens will experience better public services, digital infrastructure, greater healthcare access, and safer, more efficient urban environments. Presight also expects the urban travel time in Albania’s cities to decline thanks to this project.

“The Albania smart city project reinforces Presight’s position as a global leader in AI-powered smart city solutions. By deploying a comprehensive national AI platform, Presight is setting a global benchmark for responsible, AI-driven urban development,” added Pramotedham.

Presight has committed to developing AI solutions that enhance communities while upholding privacy and security. This project aligns with Albania’s digital transformation goals and ensures AI is used ethically and transparently to deliver tangible benefits to citizens.

UAE President visits Albania

The signing of the agreement between Presight and Albania’s Ministry of Interior came during the UAE President’s working visit to the country. During the visit, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed and Albania’s Prime Minister discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and expand cooperation, particularly in key sectors such as the economy, trade, renewable energy, food security and technology.

Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the significant progress in UAE-Albania relations in recent years, particularly in areas that contribute to both nations’ joint development. He reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to further strengthening these ties in the coming period and noted that non-oil trade between the UAE and Albania grew by 129.4 percent in 2024 compared to 2023.

His Highness stated that the two nations engage in promising cooperation in renewable and clean energy in line with their shared sustainability ambitions, emphasizing the UAE’s keenness to further bolster collaboration in this sector in the future.

During the meeting, the two leaders witnessed the exchange of a framework for action between Masdar, TAQA Transmission, Korporata Elektroenergjitike Shqiptare (KESH) – Albania Power Corporation, and Operatori i Sistemit të Transmetimit (OST). The framework will progress their collaboration on the assessment and implementation of the initiatives of the tripartite strategic partnership framework related to renewable energy and energy infrastructure signed by the UAE, Albania and Italy.

This framework aims to enhance cooperation in developing renewable energy projects, thereby improving energy security, promoting sustainable development, and accelerating the transition to clean energy in the Mediterranean region.
