The second edition of the Global Media Congress commenced today in Abu Dhabi. Its main focus was tackling climate change challenges in the media sector. The event is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Organized by the Emirates News Agency (WAM) and Capital Events, the three-day event is a pivotal forum for the global media sector.

In light of growing climate change concerns, the congress hosted a discussion on environmental consciousness in alignment with COP28. It discussed content creation for climate challenges and an international media dialogue on climate change awareness.

Industry growth and sustainability

Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, director-general of WAM, expressed pride in assembling decision-makers and major corporations. Al Rayssi stated, “The Global Media Congress is playing a decisive role in assembling media leaders to tackle the key issues faced by the industry. The Congress is driving the sector’s growth and evolution and highlighting its immense potential to create game-changing solutions and open up new business horizons.”

The Create Stage hosted discussions on the evolving role of creators in digital marketing. Meanwhile, the Educate Stage featured interactive presentations on content evaluation, format adoptions, media futures, and key content delivery technologies. Workshops explored sustainability and climate media, the power of youth storytelling, subscription strategies, and ChatGPT among other topics.

The Congress introduced five features, including an innovation and startups platform with more than 24 startups. Moreover, it introduced a platform for training and education with over 30 workshops. Meanwhile, the Future Media Labs will host elite-level discussions on the future of the sector. On the other hand, the event will include influencer innovation and new media sessions. This provides creative platforms for dialogue and exploration of sector challenges and opportunities.

Growing global participation 

This year’s Congress witnessed a significant increase in participation, with 257 brands (up by 33 percent). Moreover, 172 countries (up by 22 percent) joined the event. The exhibition space expanded by 78 percent to over 32,000 square meters. Moreover, the event is hosting major buyers in the media sector, expecting over 400 attendees. This underlines the growing importance of the Global Media Congress on a global scale.

Furthermore, over 77 speakers from 18 countries will lead 36 main sessions covering a range of topics. Topics include innovation, the latest technologies in the media sector, youth participation, and media work training and development.

The Global Media Congress will be covered comprehensively by nearly 800 media professionals from 58 countries. This marks an 8 percent increase from last year. This global distribution underscores the congress’s significance as a hub for shaping the future of the media industry.
