Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar has entered into a partnership with Presight, a prominent big data analytics firm utilizing generative artificial intelligence (AI), to create an asset management tool for its global renewable energy initiatives.
Masdar’s renewable energy projects produce billions of data points daily from various equipment, including solar panels, inverters, and wind turbines. This extensive data can be analyzed to extract valuable insights, facilitating data-driven decision-making.
Transitioning to predictive operations
By developing an AI-driven asset management tool, Masdar aims to digitize its global operations, transitioning from a reactive to a predictive model. This approach will allow for the analysis of data and operational trends to identify potential issues early, enhance efficiency, mitigate failures before they happen, minimize downtime, and ultimately increase energy output.
Masdar has been a leader in innovation within the renewable energy sector. Through its collaboration with Presight, it continues this innovative trajectory by integrating AI technology to optimize its energy supply.
Role of AI in energy
AI is anticipated to play a pivotal role in the energy sector, improving efficiency and operational processes while utilizing predictive analytics to optimize energy grids and enhance resilience. It also supports the seamless integration of renewable energy with other energy sources.
Vision for a sustainable future
Masdar’s CEO, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, expressed that given the company’s track record in deploying advanced clean energy technologies, it was a natural step for Masdar to explore the potential of AI in energy systems to boost efficiency and enable data-driven decision-making. He further emphasized that the synergy between AI and energy presents a transformative economic opportunity that would pave the way to a low-carbon, high-growth future. He also conveyed excitement about the collaboration between two pioneering UAE entities that would contribute to achieving this vision.
Addressing operational demands
Presight’s CEO, Thomas Pramotedham, noted that clean energy comes with unique operational demands, including the management of fluctuating supply throughout the day and the effective integration with other energy forms in the grid.
Commitment to global sustainability
Since its inception in 2006, Masdar has been instrumental in advancing the UAE’s vision of becoming a global leader in sustainability and climate action. Moreover, the company has developed and partnered on projects in over 40 countries, with a goal to expand its renewable energy portfolio capacity to 100 GW by 2030, along with becoming a leading producer of green hydrogen by the same year.
