The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has launched a groundbreaking Declaration on Longevity and Precision Medicine during Abu Dhabi Global Health Week (ADGHW) 2025, marking a major milestone in efforts to transform healthcare delivery and research globally.

As the first initiative of its kind, developed in collaboration with leading international health organizations, academic institutions, and industry pioneers, the declaration establishes key principles to accelerate the advancement of precision medicine and longevity science.

The signing was led by DoH and included notable entities such as M42, Masdar City, PureHealth, Illumina, NYU Abu Dhabi, the University of Pennsylvania, Aldar, Children’s National Hospital, Burjeel, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Institute for Healthier Living Abu Dhabi (IHLAD), Abu Dhabi Media Office reported.

Vision for healthy communities

His Excellency Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, chairman of DoH, stated: “Healthy populations lead to healthy communities, stronger social cohesion, and fuel economic growth. This declaration unites global leaders to harness emerging technologies responsibly and deliver the benefits of precision medicine to all. Because health knows no boundaries, we are working together towards actionable and long-term solutions.”

Driving personalized care adoption

Developed in collaboration with experts worldwide, the declaration aims to drive the adoption of personalized care and promote research into extending healthy lifespans. It emphasizes the urgency of addressing the widening healthspan-lifespan gap, which currently stands at nearly a decade globally.

Addressing global demographic changes

The declaration comes at a critical time, as the World Health Organization projects that the global population aged 60 and older will double to 2.1 billion by 2050. Concurrently, the precision medicine market is expected to grow from $81 billion in 2023 to more than $175 billion by 2030.

UAE: Global leader in longevity

The United Arab Emirates stands as a regional and global leader in the longevity market, driven by pioneering regulatory frameworks, investments in precision medicine, and groundbreaking initiatives, such as the world’s first licensed Healthy Longevity Medicine Centre. The UAE’s longevity market is estimated to reach $32 billion by 2026, up from $19 billion in 2020.

Commitments to advance longevity science

The declaration further outlines bold commitments to advance longevity science, artificial intelligence, diagnostics, and personalized therapeutics. It sets forth six key pillars. These include advancing research and innovation, enhancing collaboration and knowledge-sharing, and investing in education and workforce development. Additionally, it advocates for supportive policy and regulation. It also emphasizes upholding ethics and responsible practices. Finally, it calls for engaging the public about longevity research and its implications for health and society.

Moreover, PwC Middle East, a strategic partner in the initiative, highlighted the global significance of the declaration in advancing healthcare priorities worldwide.
