ADNOC and AIQ introduced at ADIPEC 2024 ENERGYai, the world’s first custom-designed agentic artificial intelligence (AI) solution tailored for the global energy transition.
Combining advanced technologies
ENERGYai merges advanced large language model technology with state-of-the-art ‘agentic’ AI—specifically trained AI agents that specialize in various tasks throughout ADNOC’s value chain. These specialized agents introduce a new level of autonomy and accuracy to essential operations, ranging from seismic analysis to energy efficiency and real-time monitoring of processes. Built for smooth integration into existing workflows, these agents utilize cutting-edge machine learning and predictive analytics to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency.
Commitment to sustainable solutions
This development highlights ADNOC’s dedication to leading the way in sustainable, data-driven solutions that elevate industry standards. Created by AIQ in collaboration with G42 and Microsoft, ENERGYai will incorporate top-tier technologies, including open subsurface data universe (OSDU) frameworks and OpenAI models.
Catalyst for value creation
Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC managing director and group CEO, remarked that ENERGYai represents a significant milestone in ADNOC’s mission to become the world’s most AI-enabled energy company and a vital contributor to the global energy transformation. He stated that it will serve as a catalyst for value creation and sustainable energy production, utilizing petabytes of data to empower the workforce and unlock innovative solutions across the value chain. As AI accelerates progress and reshapes industries, he emphasized that ENERGYai will position ADNOC at the forefront of AI implementation, ensuring the company continues to deliver secure and sustainable energy globally.
Partnership for transformation
Peng Xiao, group CEO of G42, stated that ENERGYai reflects G42’s commitment to revolutionizing global energy through AI, providing real-time, data-driven insights and employing agentic AI to enhance efficiency, resilience, and sustainability. He further noted that by leveraging ADNOC’s industry leadership and extensive historical data alongside G42’s advanced AI capabilities, and partnering with Microsoft, they are establishing a robust foundation for the future of energy—empowering leaders to make strategic decisions that foster sustainable progress.
Enhancing efficiency through AI
Darryl Willis, corporate vice president, Energy and Resources Industry at Microsoft, noted that AI technologies have the potential to optimize energy usage across the entire spectrum of traditional and renewable energy sectors, enhancing safety, reliability, and efficiency, while also reducing emissions and expediting low- and no-carbon energy solutions. Additionally, he expressed excitement about collaborating with ADNOC and AIQ on the development of AI-driven solutions that can stimulate economic growth, address energy security and equity, and promote a net-zero future for all.
Ambitious development program
Trained on ADNOC’s 80 years of data, the ambitious three-year development program for ENERGYai is set to begin testing with real-world datasets by the end of 2024 in several targeted areas. Moreover, it is anticipated that ENERGYai will accelerate the creation of detailed geological models by up to 75 percent using vast and varied datasets, facilitating the planning and development of large-scale CO2 storage solutions.
Streamlining planning processes
In development planning, ENERGYai aims to shorten timelines from 1-2 years to mere weeks, thus minimizing both costs and emissions. Its ability to analyze multiple scenarios concurrently allows for detailed, sophisticated simulations across all variables, enabling quicker and more precise decision-making. Furthermore, in the downstream sector, ENERGYai’s future-proof and scalable design integrates effortlessly with ADNOC’s current technologies and platforms.
Strengthening UAE’s position
Since its establishment in 2020, AIQ has collaborated closely with ADNOC to create specialized solutions for the energy sector, leveraging ADNOC’s extensive data and expertise to bolster the UAE’s status as a leader in energy-focused AI. The launch of ENERGYai sets a new standard for the global energy industry.

Successful implementation of AR360
In October 2024, ADNOC announced the implementation of AIQ’s Advanced Reservoir 360 (AR360) solution in over 30 reservoirs within the company’s upstream operations, following the successful initial deployment in early 2024 in two ADNOC reservoirs located at the Bab and Umm Shaif fields.
Developed by AIQ in partnership with SLB as part of ENERGYai, ADNOC’s artificial intelligence and digital technology strategy, AR360 employs artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies to enhance reservoir management and optimize field development planning.
AR360 reduces planning durations while improving well life and recovery rates by ensuring an optimal balance between drilling new wells. Consequently, this solution enhances the performance of existing wells and optimizes both injection and production volumes.
Unlike traditional forecasting technologies that necessitate operating across multiple software platforms and datasets, AR360 consolidates everything into a single platform, utilizing AI to save time and facilitate better, more proactive decision-making.
To date, ADNOC has deployed over 30 AI tools across its operations—from the control room to the boardroom—to enhance safety, lower emissions, optimize efficiency, and maximize value.
