Through the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, ADNOC achieved a remarkable value of AED1.84 billion ($500 million) in 2023.
By integrating over 30 cutting-edge AI tools throughout ADNOC’s entire value chain, from field operations to corporate decision-making, the company achieved this milestone. Additionally, these applications contributed to a reduction of 1 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions between 2022 and 2023, which is equivalent to removing over 200,000 gasoline-powered cars from the roads.

ADNOC’s success in generating value and reducing emissions is a testament to its strategic approach of developing and deploying innovative technologies such as AI, robotic automation, and advanced data analytics. This achievement marks the beginning of a multi-year initiative aimed at accelerating the implementation of AI solutions across ADNOC’s value chain. The objective is to enhance safety, reduce emissions, and increase value.
Smarter decision-making enabled by AI
Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, emphasized the significance of AI in driving economic and social transformation. He highlighted how AI integration throughout ADNOC’s operations, from the control room to the boardroom, has enabled smarter decision-making, improved safety measures, and better protection of the environment.
As ADNOC continues to expand its diversified energy portfolio to ensure secure and responsible energy supply, AI integration is crucial for future-proofing the business and extracting greater sustainable value from its assets and resources, Al Jaber added.
This announcement was made during ADNOC’s Leadership Forum, where employees from across the ADNOC Group gathered to discuss strategic priorities and initiatives. The forum aligns with ADNOC’s mission to transform, decarbonize, and secure a reliable and responsible energy supply.
AI applications in ADNOC’s upstream and downstream operations
In ADNOC’s upstream operations, AI applications play a vital role in subsurface resource mapping, optimizing drilling and production activities, and enabling smarter reservoir management. These AI capabilities facilitate the rapid and efficient growth of production capacity while ensuring the delivery of lower-carbon intensity energy.
Across both upstream and downstream facilities, ADNOC’s Centralized Predictive Analytics and Diagnostics (CPAD) program utilizes AI to remotely monitor critical operational equipment. CPAD has significantly reduced unplanned shutdowns, streamlined routine maintenance, and improved operational efficiency. These enhancements enable maximum energy production with minimal emissions.
ADNOC’s commitment to emissions reduction
AI also supports ADNOC’s ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045 and near-zero methane emissions by 2030. Tools like Emission X gather historical and real-time data from various operational sites to accurately predict emission sources up to five years in advance, empowering operators to take proactive measures. Emission X was also developed by AIQ, a joint venture between ADNOC and G42 established in 2020 to drive AI-powered transformation in the energy sector for a more sustainable future.
AIQ products: SMARTi, AR360, and Robowell
ADNOC’s facilities also utilize other AIQ products. SMARTi, an intelligent computer vision system, employs AI to detect safety hazards in industrial and operational environments. AR360 utilizes AI to visualize reservoirs and optimize development, reducing planning time and increasing well life and recovery rates. Robowell leverages AI to remotely operate equipment like flow valves in upstream facilities, reducing costs, enhancing safety, and boosting production capacity.
