Given the array of languages and the increase in cross-border communications, we are witnessing an increasing reliance on artificial intelligence (AI) to navigate cross-language business needs.
Recent research commissioned by DeepL surveying over 2,000 UAE and Saudi professionals found that 84 percent of professionals in the UAE and KSA have integrated these translation tools into their workflows, highlighting that AI is not only a tool but a transformative agent in the workplace.
The growing adoption of AI translation tools
The research also indicated that more professionals are increasingly taking advantage of AI-driven tools to enhance productivity. According to the study, these tools are mostly applied to developing new language skills (UAE: 52 percent; KSA: 51 percent), boosting efficiency and saving time (UAE: 50 percent; KSA: 51 percent), and managing supplier relationships (UAE: 45 percent; KSA: 47 percent).
In the workplace where English, Arabic, and other languages converge, AI translation tools have emerged as essential resources as they enable real-time translation of written communication and reduce the time and resources previously required to address language barriers. This efficiency is crucial in regions such as the Middle East, where more and more businesses are choosing to set up.
A catalyst for workplace efficiency
The fundamental theme of our findings is AI translation tools bringing about increased workplace efficiency. These tools make translation accessible to everyone for everyday tasks. For example, drafting an email or participating in a Teams meeting. By democratizing access to traditional translation services, we can enable every team member, regardless of scope or seniority, to be able to work in a multilingual environment. At DeepL, our solutions aim to reduce translation time by 90 percent and are powered by specialized AI models specifically tuned for language and translation.
These tools are particularly important in the UAE and KSA, where economic diversification efforts and Vision 2030 initiatives require collaboration across different sectors. Professionals can now rely on AI translation tools to help them pursue strategic goals across borders without language impeding their progress.
Additionally, as the region continues to see an increase in global interactions, the adoption of AI language tools represents a strategic advantage. The research shows that 46 percent of professionals in the UAE and KSA reported that AI translation tools have helped them expand their business into new markets. With the UAE home to over 200 nationalities, businesses that can communicate effectively across different languages are better positioned to capture a wider market share and foster deeper partnerships with international and regional stakeholders.
Understanding accuracy concerns in AI translation tools
While the benefits of AI translation tools are undeniable and more than half (59 percent) of professionals in the UAE and KSA are encouraged to incorporate AI translation tools in the workplace, their widespread adoption also prompts a reflection on accuracy and cultural exchange.
Our research found that concerns over accuracy are at the forefront of using AI translation tools (UAE: 51 percent; KSA: 56 percent), followed by verbatim translations (UAE 48 percent; KSA: 49 percent), indicating that there is a need for enhanced contextual nuance. According to our research, an overwhelming majority (77 percent) of professionals in the UAE and KSA believe that AI will positively impact daily work efficiency by 2029. Additionally, the increased awareness of AI in the public consciousness has been a huge accelerant for enterprise adoption, with many organizations testing new solutions to improve their output and team efficiency. We will continue to see this test-and-learn attitude from many companies, but 2025 will be when more is done to narrow down the tools being used. AI for the sake of AI is likely to be reduced, with the onus shifting to whether the solution is solving an actual problem. Organizations with this mindset will also drive down the risk of Shadow AI, where team members use unsanctioned tools. Specialized models are likely to be one of the winners of this shift in attitude, with a growing focus on using the right tools for each scenario.
Ultimately, the road ahead will require thoughtful integration of AI with human skills, promoting a workforce that values innovation alongside cultural and linguistic diversity. Businesses need to stay ahead of the curve to ensure that they meet the increasing demands of international collaboration.
