Several prominent figures from the global aviation industry are anticipated to take part in the 32nd edition of the Arabian Travel Market (ATM), scheduled to occur at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from April 28 to May 1, 2025. They will engage in discussions on some of the most urgent issues facing the sector.
Key topics of discussion
Throughout the four-day event, multiple sessions will be held, addressing a wide range of trending topics. These will include sustainable aviation, emerging technologies, the revival of corporate travel, and the increasing popularity of airport entertainment, all under the event theme, “Global Travel: Developing Tomorrow’s Tourism Through Enhanced Connectivity.”
Focus on sustainable aviation fuel
One topic poised to attract significant interest is the projected rise in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). According to recent reports from the International Aviation Transport Association (IATA), SAF production has doubled in 2024 to reach 1 million tonnes, with expectations to exceed 2.1 million tonnes by 2025.
On a regional scale, Emirates and Etihad have made considerable strides in reducing CO2 emissions by utilizing SAF on routes to various destinations, including Singapore Changi Airport, Amsterdam, London Heathrow, Paris, Lyon, Oslo, and Japan.

Role of emerging technologies
The event will also focus on the vital role of new technologies in helping airports and airlines enhance operational efficiency and cut costs. Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly supporting aviation professionals by streamlining customer journeys, monitoring weather conditions, optimizing routes, and facilitating predictive maintenance. AI has become an essential asset for the industry, allowing for the analysis of scenarios to identify potential disruptions and enabling data-driven decisions that mitigate risks.
Notable examples of AI implementation include London Heathrow Airport’s pilot AI-assisted air traffic control system, Japan Airlines’ AI-driven baggage management system, and Gatwick Airport’s AI-enabled smart-stand technology, which has been developed to improve aircraft turnaround management.
Danielle Curtis, exhibition director ME, Arabian Travel Market, remarked: “At ATM, we recognise the critical importance of addressing the latest trends and innovations shaping the aviation industry. New technology and the increased use of sustainable fuels will be a game-changer for the sector, with far-reaching benefits for years to come.”
Projected industry growth
The anticipated growth of the aviation sector is expected to spark extensive discussions on the exhibit floor. According to IATA, industry revenues in 2025 will exceed $1 trillion for the first time. Furthermore, the number of travelers is projected to reach 5.2 billion, marking a 6.7 percent increase from 2024 and surpassing the five-billion milestone for the first time, with flights expected to hit 40 million.
Business travel trends
Business travel will be a key focus, especially with ATM’s new feature, IBTM@ATM. Research from Flight Centre Corporate indicates that business travel is on the rise in 2025, with 40 percent of businesses planning to increase travel from July to June, and 42 percent of corporations expected to spend more than they did in 2024.
Another emerging trend for 2025, which has already gained traction in several Middle Eastern airports, is the concept of ‘gate escape.’ For many modern travelers, particularly from Gen Z and millennials, airports are evolving into venues for entertainment, luxury, and relaxation.
According to Booking.com’s annual travel prediction survey, 43 percent of Gen Z and millennials choose destinations based on their airport experiences, seeking luxurious amenities such as sleep pods (37 percent of Gen Z, 35 percent of millennials), spas (31 percent of Gen Z, 29 percent of millennials), and Michelin-starred restaurants (22 percent of Gen Z, 24 percent of millennials).
Confirmed sessions and discussions
This year’s ATM will welcome a mix of new and returning exhibitors from the aviation industry, including Emirates, flydubai, flynas, flyadeal, Air Charter Service, and Mayfair Jets. In 2024, 4.5 percent of exhibitors hailed from the aviation sector, occupying 10 percent of the event’s space, with significant growth anticipated for 2025.
Moreover, confirmed sessions include the Global Stage’s “Connecting the Future of Travel: Aviation, Cruise & Rail,” which will examine the next steps for enhancing tourism offerings. An expert panel will explore how advancements in aviation, cruise, and rail contribute to regional and international connectivity through discussions on sustainable developments, transformative projects, and the future of integrated networks.
Commitment to future collaboration
“Through dedicated sessions, we are bringing together thought leaders, innovators, and industry stakeholders to explore how cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices can redefine air travel. By fostering dialogue and collaboration, ATM continues to serve as a vital platform for advancing the future of aviation and global connectivity,” Curtis added.
Held in conjunction with the Dubai World Trade Centre, ATM 2025’s strategic partners include Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) as the Destination Partner; Emirates as the Official Airline Partner; IHG Hotels & Resorts as the Official Hotel Partner; and Al Rais Travel as the Official DMC Partner.
