Bahrain’s non-oil exports of products of national origin fell in May 2024 12 percent to BD316 million ($838.3 million), compared to BD360 million in May 2023. According to Bahrain’s Information & eGovernment Authority, the top 10 countries accounted for 73 percent of the national origin exports.
Top export destinations
Saudi Arabia ranked first among export destinations, with BD64 million (20 percent) in national origin exports. The U.S. was second with BD34 million (11 percent), and the UAE was third with BD31 million (10 percent).
Top exported products
The top exported products were Unwrought Aluminium Alloys at BD93 million (30 percent), Agglomerated Iron Ores and Concentrates Alloyed at BD59 million (19 percent), and Aluminium Wire not Alloyed at BD20 million (6 percent).
Non-oil re-exports
Bahrain’s non-oil re-exports decreased by 28 percent to reach BD51 million in May 2024, compared to BD71 million in May 2023. Furthermore, the top 10 re-export destinations accounted for 88 percent of the value.
Top re-export destinations
Additionally, the UAE ranked first with BD19 million (37 percent), followed by Saudi Arabia with BD15 million (29 percent) and Germany with BD2 million (4 percent).
Top re-exported products
The top re-exported products were Private Cars at BD3.3 million (6.5 percent), Four Wheel Drive at BD3.1 million (6.1 percent), and Gold Ingots at BD3 million (6 percent).
Non-oil imports
Bahrain’s non-oil imports decreased by 2 percent to BD466 million in May 2024, compared to BD475 million in May 2023. In addition, the top 10 import sources accounted for 69 percent of the total import value.
Top import sources
China ranked first for imports, with BD63 million (14 percent), followed by Brazil with BD47 million (10.1 percent) and Australia with BD46 million (9.9 percent).
Top imported products
Moreover, the top imported products were Non-Agglomerated Iron Ores and Concentrates at BD51 million (11 percent), Other Aluminium Oxide at BD40 million (9 percent), and Four-Wheel Drive at BD15 million (3 percent).
Bahrain’s trade balance recorded a deficit of BD99 million in May 2024, compared to a deficit of BD43 million in May 2023.
