The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has positioned itself as a dominant force in global infrastructure, exemplifying remarkable progress and an unwavering commitment to advancement and growth.

In the World Economic Forum’s (WEF/Davos) 2023 competitiveness report, the UAE has made significant strides in infrastructure quality, surging by four ranks to secure an esteemed fourth place.

This accomplishment is a testament to the UAE’s decade-long dedication to infrastructure development, as evidenced by an investment of over $3.5 billion in 258 essential projects over the past ten years.

The UAE’s commitment to infrastructure development remains resolute, with an additional allocation of $2.45 billion designated for 127 projects in the next five years. In addition, this commitment is underscored by the recently approved federal budget for the 2024-2026 roadmap, which allocates approximately $700,000, equivalent to 4 percent of the total general budget, to infrastructure and economic resources.

Unwavering governmental support

Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Suhail Al Mazrouei, UAE minister of Energy and Infrastructure, attributed this success to the unwavering support of the government. Furthermore, he stated, “In accordance with the directives of our visionary leadership, the Ministry is enthusiastic about launching initiatives and projects that bolster the UAE’s development and competitiveness.”

Additionally, Al Mazrouei underscored the strategic importance of advancing infrastructure and developing crucial arterial roads to enhance the quality of life for citizens and stimulate the national economy.

Collaborative effort

The commendable achievement is the result of a collaborative effort, as acknowledged by Hanan Mansour Ahli, director of the UAE Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre. Moreover, Ahli recognized the invaluable contributions of the Ministry’s partners. Further, she described the UAE’s infrastructure as a leading global model, developed in accordance with the finest international standards and specifications.

Comprehensive technological excellence

The UAE’s ambitious vision extends beyond infrastructure development alone. Ahli highlighted the government’s focus on achieving comprehensive technological excellence in airports, seaports, urban road networks, tourist sites, hotels, and all modes of transportation. Additionally, she said the government aimed to ensure the quality of electricity, communications, and all public services and facilities, providing citizens with the essentials for a decent life and securing their social and economic well-being.
