Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has commissioned a reservoir with a capacity of 30 million imperial gallons (MIG) of desalinated water in Hatta.
The project, which costs about AED86 million ($23.4 million), included constructing supporting buildings and extending entrance and exit pipes.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said that the reservoir project in Hatta supports the Comprehensive Development Plan for Hatta to increase water flow, raise the volume of water reserves to meet growing demand and increase the efficiency and reliability of water networks to support the sustainable development of Dubai.

Al Tayer explained that DEWA commissioned two water reservoirs in Lusaily and Enkhali this year, and is building a 120 MIG reservoir in Hassyan. The storage capacity will increase to 1,121 MIG in the first quarter 2025.
DEWA completes 82 percent of reservoir in Hassyan
A few days ago, DEWA announced that its 120-million-gallon reservoir in Hassyan is now 82 percent complete. The AED290-million project is likely to go live in the first quarter of 2025.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said: “We are committed to providing a state-of-the-art, integrated electricity and water infrastructure in Dubai that meets the highest standards of availability, reliability, efficiency and safety to ensure energy and water security. The 120-million-gallon reservoir in Hassyan, along with the reservoirs commissioned this year in Al Lusaily, Enkhali and Hatta, is part of DEWA’s strategy to enhance the efficiency and reliability of water networks, increase water flow and reserves, as well as meet the growing demand. This will enhance the efficiency and reliability of the water network and provide stable supplies capable of meeting Dubai’s economic and social development needs. Upon completing the project in the first quarter of next year, the water storage capacity of Dubai will reach 1.121 billion gallons of desalinated water.”
Earlier this year, DEWA announced the commissioning of a water reservoir in the Lusaily area. The project has a storage capacity of 60 million imperial gallons and costs AED157.4 million.
