The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has commissioned 558 11 kV distribution substations across Dubai during the first half of 2024, it said on Tuesday. The authority has expanded its network of electricity distribution substations to keep pace with Dubai’s significant development and growth, and the increasing demand for electricity.
DEWA seeks to maintain the emirate’s power supply according to the highest standards of availability, reliability and sustainability, in addition to transforming Dubai into a model for advanced and integrated infrastructure.
“In line with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, we are committed to promoting the expansion of Dubai’s electricity infrastructure and consolidating our global achievements,” stated Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
Besides, DEWA set a global milestone in 2023 by recording the lowest electricity line loss of 2 percent. The authority also recorded the lowest electricity customer minutes lost of 1.06 minutes annually per customer.
The authority added that there are currently 72 33 kV substations in service and 44,472 medium voltage substations across Dubai.
“DEWA continues its relentless efforts to ensure work proceeds according to set plans, while implementing the highest health, safety, and environmental standards using the latest digital technologies,” said Rashid Bin Humaidan, executive vice president of distribution power at DEWA.
Notably, the authority reported revenues of AED13.7 billion, EBITDA of AED6.6 billion, operating profit of AED3.3 billion, and profit after tax of AED2.6 billion during H1 of 2024. DEWA reported robust revenue growth of 7.3 percent and impressive EBITDA growth of 8.9 percent annually.
