Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha, Qatar, has achieved a remarkable milestone, serving over 50 million passengers in a rolling 12-month period for the first time in its 10-year history. This reflects the airport’s growth and strategic positioning as a crucial global aviation hub.

Doha’s rising popularity as a travel destination

The airport’s point-to-point passenger operations account for 25 percent of its total traffic, attributable to the increasing number of international visitors to Doha, which grew by 58 percent in 2023 compared to the previous year. This highlights Doha’s appeal as a premier travel destination, as reported by Qatar Tourism.

Expanding airline partnerships and connectivity

In 2023, Hamad International Airport welcomed three new airline partners, with an additional four partners joining in the first four months of 2024. The airport served 255 destinations in 2023, including passenger, cargo, and chartered flight routes, further enhancing its connectivity and service offerings.

Recognized as a leading global aviation hub

According to the recently published Airport Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific and Middle East Air Connectivity Ranking 2023, Doha boasts the second-best air connectivity in the Middle East. This success is partly due to the airport’s robust facilities and services, which enable major airlines to operate from the hub and leverage their extensive global networks.

Responding to increasing air travel demand

The report’s findings indicate that the Middle East is experiencing steady growth in air connectivity and recommends meeting current and future demand by building new airport infrastructure. These findings reflect Hamad International Airport’s growth trajectory and expansion plans, as the airport is currently undergoing the second phase of its expansion project, which aims to further increase its passenger capacity and lifestyle offerings.
