DP World, a global leader in port operations and logistics, celebrated a significant milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony for its new AED550 million ($150 million) agri terminals facility at Jebel Ali Port. This project, in collaboration with Adroit Overseas Canada and Al Amir Foods, aims to bolster the UAE’s food security infrastructure.

Investment in food security

The Agri Terminals complex will specialize in storing and processing various agricultural products, including pulses, grains, corn, and soybeans. Leveraging DP World’s innovative infrastructure, such as pneumatic ship unloaders and advanced conveying equipment, the facility will revolutionize the handling of agricultural commodities in the region.

“This investment will add world-class infrastructure to our flagship port, support national efforts to strengthen food security, and significantly expand our flourishing agricultural trade ecosystem in Dubai,” stated Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, group chairman and CEO of DP World.

Project’s impact

Scheduled for completion in early 2025, DP World’s agri terminals project aligns with the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy 2051. Jebel Ali Port, which currently handles approximately 73 percent of the UAE’s food and beverage trade by value, plays a pivotal role in supporting the country’s food security program. Therefore, the expansion of the port’s capabilities through the agri terminals facility underscores Dubai’s commitment to global food trade while strengthening its position as a key player in the region.

DP World’s new facility is expected to stimulate over AED1.2 billion in new international trade. This is in line with the UAE’s ambitious “Operation 300 Billion” strategy. Furthermore, it will enhance bulk handling by approximately 750,000 metric tonnes annually, contributing significantly to Dubai’s trade dynamics and overall food security efforts.

Agri Terminals

DP World’s project is located on an area of nearly 100,000 sqm, making agri terminals Dubai’s largest multi-tenant facility for integrated agricultural processing and silo storage. It will feature a total storage capacity of 200,000 metric tonnes, developed over two phases. Moreover, it will include processing and packaging facilities to handle as much as 500,000 metric tonnes a year. Furthermore, the terminal’s design allows for a seamless transfer of commodities directly from ship to facility through an advanced conveyor belt system.
