Dubai Airports has revised its passenger projections for the upcoming holiday season, anticipating a higher influx of travelers. Between December 15 and 31, it is now expected that Dubai’s primary airport, Dubai International (DXB), will receive approximately 4.4 million passengers, resulting in an average daily traffic of 258,000 individuals.

In preparation for this surge in visitors, DXB is making arrangements to accommodate the significant increase in guest numbers. The busiest day at the airport is anticipated to be December 22, with an estimated 279,000 passengers expected to pass through its gates on that day.

Dubai has firmly established itself as a sought-after winter destination, and the Dubai International Airport (DXB) anticipates a significant influx of visitors during the final two weekends of the year. Approximately 500,000 passengers are expected to arrive over a six-day period, spanning from December 22 to 24 and December 29 to 31.

To enhance the holiday experience for travelers, DXB has planned a series of engaging activities spanning across Terminals 1, 2, and 3. These include an immersive 3D photo opportunity inside a grand snow globe, appearances by various festive performers distributing gifts, and delightful encounters with Santa Claus specially designed for young travelers.

Preparing for peak times

“We welcomed new airlines and additional flights at DXB at the start of the winter to help attract a growing number of visitors to Dubai and connect them to even more cities,” said Essa Al Shamsi, senior vice president of Terminal Operations at Dubai Airports.”

With the holiday spirit in full swing, we are prepared for this travel peak – your passport to a memorable experience. Backed by a state-of-the-art airport operations control centre, our dedicated teams across DXB are committed to making the festive travel experience cheerful and bright,” he added.

DXB’s highest quarterly traffic since 2019

In the third quarter, Dubai Airports announced that DXB had welcomed a notable 22.9 million passengers, marking the highest quarterly traffic since 2019. The projected annual passenger traffic for 2023 has been revised upwards to 86.8 million, surpassing the previous estimate of 85 million passengers made in August.

Anticipating a continuation of this positive trend, the airport operator expects to witness record-breaking numbers in both the fourth quarter of 2023 and throughout 2024. To accommodate the increasing demand at DXB, the company is actively expanding passenger processing capacity and adding more aircraft stands.

Additionally, there are plans to relocate to Dubai World Central (DWC), also known as Al Maktoum International Airport, once DXB reaches its capacity limit of 120 million passengers. This strategic move will further support the growing demand and ensure the smooth operation of air travel in the region.
