Dubai International (DXB) is expected to surpass its pre-pandemic passenger traffic numbers this year with around 86.8 million passengers. With a robust performance throughout the first three quarters of 2023, DXB recorded 64.5 million passengers. This marks a 39.3 percent increase compared to the same period in 2022 and 1 percent above 2019 levels.
Optimistic outlook
DXB’s growth story continued with a staggering 22.9 million passengers, the highest quarterly passenger traffic since 2019. Average monthly traffic reached 7.6 million, tracking pre-pandemic levels and setting the stage for a triumphant year-end.
Paul Griffiths, Dubai Airports CEO, expressed enthusiasm about DXB’s imminent milestone, emphasizing the readiness to exceed guest satisfaction. “Our outlook for the remainder of this year and the next remains optimistic. Teaming up with our strategic partners, we’re ready for the challenge to continue to exceed guest satisfaction” he stated.
“Instead of settling, we’re dedicated to exploring inventive solutions, reimagining traditional concepts, integrating state-of-the-art technology, and addressing the mammoth challenge of sustainability,” he added.
India was DXB’s top country destination in terms of traffic volume for the first nine months of 2023. Saudi Arabia and the UK followed. Furthermore, Dubai leads in international visitor spending with $29.4 billion. By embracing cutting-edge technologies, Dubai Airports works closely with stakeholders to provide a world-class experience.

Stellar performance metrics
DXB achieved remarkable performance metrics, including a 99.8 percent success rate in baggage handling. It recorded only 2.5 mishandled bags per 1,000 passengers.
Moreover, the average waiting time at passport control queues was less than 11 minutes for 96.4 percent of arriving passengers. Meanwhile, baggage delivery within 45 minutes reached an impressive 91 percent. Those achievements showcase DXB’s efficiency and commitment to passenger satisfaction.
On the other hand, the cargo sector at DXB experienced a surge of 12.3 percent year-on-year in Q3. It reached a total of 446,400 tons and helped to offset the previous year’s double-digit contraction.
Meanwhile, flight movements in the third quarter increased by 5.1 percent, totaling 106,000. That is a remarkable 25.2 percent year-on-year increase in total flight movements between January and September.
