The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) is set to participate in two significant events this month in Dubai: GITEX Global 2024, from October 14 to 18, and Expand North Star, from October 13 to 16. These shows will showcase the innovative services DET provides to facilitate business operations and highlight the forward-thinking companies establishing themselves in Dubai as they embark on global expansion.

Alignment with economic goals

DET’s involvement in these events aligns with the ambitious Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, which aims to double the size of Dubai’s economy by 2033 and reinforce the city’s status as a premier global hub for business and leisure.

Innovations at GITEX Global

At GITEX Global, taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre, the Dubai Business Registration and Licensing Corporation (DBLC), a DET entity, will reveal state-of-the-art solutions aimed at optimizing the investor experience, thereby enhancing the ease of doing business in Dubai. This initiative is crucial for attracting foreign direct investment and top-tier talent.

Strengthening global reputation

Additionally, these efforts, WAM reported, will further elevate the emirate’s global reputation as a premier destination for innovation and investment. During the event, DBLC will also recognize various partners who have significantly contributed to its successful initiatives over the past year.

Spotlight on local businesses

Simultaneously, at Dubai Harbour, the Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Dubai SME)—another wing of DET—will spotlight five of its member businesses, including Transcend Technologies, Jadwelny Portal, Sadeem Energy, Elmadrasah.com, and Insurina, alongside its incubation partner Intelak. These participating members span diverse sectors such as artificial intelligence in tourism, energy IoT, EdTech, insurance, and cybersecurity.

Supporting Emirati startups

The Hamdan Innovation Incubator (Hi2), an initiative by Dubai SME, will sponsor the Emaratipreneur Expo 2024, aimed at promoting Emirati startups and innovative enterprises. The event will feature two panel discussions, a competition, and an awards ceremony for SMEs. Hi2 will provide 50 pods for young Emiratis with promising business concepts, focusing on projects with active Emirati partnerships at various stages of development, from prototypes to market-ready ventures.

Commitment to innovation

Ahmad Al Room Almheiri, director of Ease of Doing Business at DBLC, highlighted that DBLC’s participation at GITEX Global 2024 reflects its dedication to fostering innovation and advancing the core objectives of the D33 Agenda, which aims to enhance economic productivity through digital transformation across sectors. Also, he noted that the department would introduce initiatives designed to simplify the investor journey and create a more efficient environment for local and international businesses to thrive, supporting the broader goal of positioning Dubai as a global leader in digital innovation and investment.

Empowering the next generation

Saeed Matar Mohammed AlMarri, deputy CEO of Dubai SME, expressed excitement about showcasing a selection of dynamic Emirati startups at Expand North Star. Moreover, he emphasized that these startups are poised to transform various industries, from AI to cybersecurity, which demonstrates their commitment to innovation and the D33 Agenda. He stated that these entrepreneurs represent the future of Dubai’s economy, and with guidance from the city’s visionary leadership, their aim is to integrate these talents into a vibrant business ecosystem. He also mentioned that through Hi2’s sponsorship of the Emaratipreneur Expo, they are empowering startups to innovate and compete on a global scale, ensuring the next generation of Dubai entrepreneurs will drive economic growth.
