Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) has awarded a contract to Smiths Detection to install next-generation security screening systems across all terminals at Dubai International Airport (DXB). This initiative aims to enhance passenger safety and streamline the travel experience at one of the world’s busiest airports.
Announced during the Airport Show 2025, this multi-year deal will see Smiths Detection deploy its HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX Model-S scanners in Terminals 1, 2, and 3.
The computed tomography (CT) scanners produce high-resolution 3D images, allowing passengers to keep electronics and liquids in their bags, according to a statement. This advancement helps to reduce wait times and enhance efficiency at checkpoints. The initiative aims to boost security, but significantly, it will also streamline passenger flow.
Advanced features for efficiency
The new systems are equipped with automated tray return, smart lane management, and object recognition software. They are certified by international bodies, including the TSA and ECAC.
“Dubai continues to lead the world in aviation excellence by investing in the latest security screening technologies,” remarked H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman of Dubai Airports. “This project strengthens passenger safety, enhances the travel experience, and reinforces Dubai’s reputation as a global aviation hub.”
This contract supports Dubai’s broader initiative toward intelligent airport infrastructure as DXB continues to handle record international traffic.
Eng. Khalifa Al Zaffin, executive chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, stated that Smiths Detection’s selection reflects Dubai’s commitment to integrating smart systems: “It is an investment in operational efficiency and the safety of millions of travelers as we build the airports of the future,” he said.
Supporting Dubai’s aviation vision
Eng. Suzanne Al Anani, CEO of DAEP, added, “This project exemplifies our proactive approach to enabling safe, seamless, and high-capacity travel through the integration of smart, advanced technologies.”
Tom Squier, Smiths Detection’s Middle East managing director, said: “Our advanced screening solutions will enhance detection efficiency and support Dubai’s vision for safe and smart air travel.”
The rollout is part of DAEP’s broader mandate to develop secure, modern airport infrastructure in alignment with Dubai’s long-term aviation strategy.
