The Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) and the UAE Ministry of Economy have today launched the Dubai Intellectual Property Hub (DIPH), marking the UAE’s first centralized hub for intellectual property (IP) and intangible assets (IA). This initiative is designed to empower a diverse array of innovators, artists, entrepreneurs, researchers, academics, and startups.

The announcement, Dubai Media Office reported, was made during the “IP2024: Glimpse on the Future of IP” event held at the Museum of the Future, where a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the UAE Ministry of Economy and DFF. The event was attended by Abdullah Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE minister of Economy; Alia Abdulla Al Mazrouei, UAE minister of State for Entrepreneurship; Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Muaini, assistant undersecretary for the Intellectual Property Rights Sector at the Ministry of Economy; and Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of DFF. As part of the MoU, the Ministry of Economy’s IA registration feature will be integrated into the Dubai Intellectual Property Hub.

Commitment to a dynamic ecosystem

Abdullah Bin Touq Al Marri emphasized the UAE’s steadfast dedication to cultivating a dynamic ecosystem that fosters innovation, encourages the development of ideas, and supports the expansion of creative enterprises. The country has established a comprehensive legislative and institutional framework, enhanced by integrated services aimed at safeguarding intellectual property rights across all sectors, in accordance with international best practices. In addition, these efforts, he noted, are seen as essential for achieving the goals of the “We the UAE 2031” vision, which aspires to position the UAE as a global leader in the new economy and one of the top 10 destinations worldwide for talent and creativity over the next decade.

Enhancing intellectual property protections

Additionally, Al Marri noted that the introduction of the Dubai IP Hub, in partnership with the Dubai Future Foundation, represents a significant step forward in strengthening intellectual property protections for the creative industries in both Dubai and the UAE as a whole. This strategic initiative is intended to provide entrepreneurs, authors, creatives, and researchers with the essential tools and resources needed to secure and formalize their innovations, ultimately bolstering an economy increasingly driven by creativity and innovation.

Advancing the legislative framework

Khalfan Belhoul remarked that the collaboration with the Ministry of Economy in developing this platform is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the UAE’s legislative framework, improve the readiness of all economic sectors, and establish a robust research and development ecosystem. By offering crucial tools for businesses to flourish, the aim is to facilitate their growth and expansion within the UAE, the region, and globally, he further said.

Empowering creativity and innovation

Al Marri emphasized that the establishment of the Dubai IP Hub, in partnership with the Dubai Future Foundation, represents a significant step forward in strengthening intellectual property protections for the creative industries in both Dubai and the broader UAE. Additionally, this strategic initiative, he said, empowers entrepreneurs, creators, and researchers with essential tools and resources to secure and formalize their innovations, ultimately bolstering the nation’s economy, which is increasingly fueled by creativity and innovation.

Key features and focus areas of DIPH

Moreover, DIPH will focus on four key pillars, offering guidelines for the registration of all types of intellectual property through a streamlined digital interface. It will further serve as a comprehensive and reliable resource for information and guidance on IP protection and commercial utilization, equipping users with tools to develop effective IP strategies.

User-friendly digital platform

Furthermore, a standout feature of the hub is its user-friendly digital platform, which consolidates all pertinent information, tools, guidelines, and resources in one easily accessible location.
