Dubai Municipality has completed seven new projects to plant and beautify key intersections on Sheikh Zayed and Al Khail Roads at AED245 million ($66.7 million). The move is in accordance with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, aimed at expanding green spaces throughout the emirate.
These projects focus on planting and enhancing significant intersections and roadways along Sheikh Zayed and Al Khail Roads. These initiatives further cover an impressive area of over 1.4 million square meters.
Commitment to sustainable beauty
This effort is part of Dubai Municipality’s ongoing commitment to enhance the city’s appeal. It aims to establish a distinctive visual identity that harmonizes urban elements with lush green spaces. The initiative beautifies Dubai’s key intersections in accordance with top-tier sustainable planting practices that meet international standards.
Enhancing green coverage
To further its mission of increasing Dubai’s greenery in an environmentally responsible manner, the Municipality has introduced 2.5 million flowers and ornamental plants, along with 6,500 trees, all supported by advanced, water-efficient irrigation systems.
Alignment with the Green Dubai Project
H.E. Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, affirmed that these planting and beautification efforts are in line with the objectives of the “Green Dubai Project.” He noted that this initiative is designed to enlarge green areas throughout the city and enhance per capita green space through meticulously planned and sustainable strategies, reflecting His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision to position Dubai as the best city globally for living.

Al Hajri also emphasized the Municipality’s dedication to enhancing Dubai’s greenery. They focus on cohesive projects and innovative approaches. These efforts aim to elevate the city’s charm. Focus on quality of life
Additionally, Al Hajri highlighted that these projects demonstrate the Municipality’s commitment to building green infrastructure and creating a healthy, comfortable environment for both residents and visitors. By expanding green spaces, the goal is to improve quality of life. The initiative also aims to uphold environmental sustainability. Additionally, it seeks to optimize natural resources through smart irrigation systems that ensure efficient water usage, he further added.

Extensive planting activities
Moreover, the planting activities at these intersections and along the primary roadways involved nearly 1.5 million flower and plant seedlings, alongside 3,500 trees. In addition, 290,000 square meters of soil mulching were applied to prevent erosion while enhancing the area’s natural beauty.
Al Khail Street intersections
The beautification projects at the Al Khail Street intersections included three major initiatives, covering over 625,000 square meters. These encompassed the intersections of Al Khail Street with Al Meydan Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street, and Umm Suqeim Street. The decorative planting efforts further featured 1 million flower and plant seedlings, 3,000 trees, and 143,654 square meters of soil mulch.
Promoting sustainable development
Furthermore, Dubai Municipality remains steadfast in advancing projects that promote sustainable development, bolstering Dubai’s reputation as one of the world’s most attractive, green, and sustainable cities. By adhering to best practices in environmental sustainability, Dubai Municipality planted over 185,000 trees in 2023, averaging 500 trees each day. Also, the emirate’s green space expanded by 234 hectares in 2023, a significant increase from 170 hectares in 2022.
