Dubai’s flagship airline Emirates announced a new real estate project ‘Emirates Residences’ in an April Fools’ Day prank.

Making the announcement on social media, the airline said: “Luxury living is about to reach new heights. Introducing Emirates Residences.”

The purported “380 story mega-project” — a nod to the Airbus A380s the airline operates — will be situated in the heart of Dubai and will be “adorned with premium interiors inspired by Emirates’ beloved in-flight experience”.

The airline even said that the tower will have its own airport for residents.

“Construction on Dubai’s newest supertall tower is set to begin 31 February, 2025,” the airline concluded.

The airline also shared images of what the purported luxury project would look like.

One photo shows a tower rising high above the clouds with the Burj Khalifa paling in comparison in the background. The photo even depicts a runway attached to the two sides of the building without any visible support – an architectural and safety nightmare!

The other photo depicts the tower’s interior, with windows shaped like those of an aircraft, except that they are several times larger. The upholstery looks premium with subtle textures.

This is not the first time Emirates has pranked people with its innovative April Fools’ Day jokes.

In 2018, they announced a transparent sky lounge. A year prior to that, they said they were launching a triple-decker plane that even included a swimming pool! Last year, they announed an ultra-luxury cruise liner Emirates Sealine.
