Abu Dhabi’s AD Ports Group, a prominent facilitator of global trade, logistics, and industry, and Archireef, an innovative nature-tech company, have jointly announced the implementation of eco sea wall panels at two specific locations in Abu Dhabi: the Al Aliah Ferry Terminal and the Saadiyat Marina and Ferry Terminal. This initiative primarily targets restoring marine biodiversity to shorelines that have been affected by development projects.

The eco sea wall panels, constructed using natural materials such as oyster shell powder, have been installed as a proof of concept at Saadiyat Island and Al Aliah respectively. Additionally, this endeavor is a collaboration with Abu Dhabi Maritime, an organization responsible for the development and management of these terminals. Abu Dhabi Maritime, operating under AD Ports Group and in cooperation with the Integrated Transport Centre – Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, is committed to the growth and preservation of Abu Dhabi’s maritime domain, including the protection of the marine ecosystem.

Moreover, the design of these panels enhances the natural complexity of flat quay walls, thereby attracting intertidal marine life back to the shoreline.

This project has received support from an AED100 million Research and Development (R&D) fund established by ADQ, an investment and holding company based in Abu Dhabi, in 2022. The fund is part of ADQ Growth Lab, a community of innovators within ADQ’s portfolio. This initiative further reflects the company’s dedication to promoting innovation and R&D, with a specific focus on unlocking growth opportunities, driving value creation, and fostering sustainability across priority sectors of the UAE’s economy.
