Internet services in Kuwait are currently experiencing disruptions due to a break in global cables that connect the nation to international internet providers, as reported by the Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA).
CITRA’s response and monitoring
In a statement to KUNA, CITRA emphasized that it is closely monitoring the situation with the affected company to expedite the repair of the damaged cable, aiming to restore normal service as quickly as possible.

Future prevention measures
Furthermore, CITRA is collaborating with the company to investigate the incident and ensure that preventive measures are implemented in the future, including the use of alternative cables to optimize the existing network and avoid similar occurrences.
Previous disruptions
Kuwait has faced comparable internet outages previously due to issues with undersea cables, which are essential for global connectivity. For instance, a significant cable cut in 2008 disrupted internet services throughout the Gulf region, including Kuwait, leading to considerable slowdowns and outages.
Additionally, in 2015, maintenance problems with international cable networks caused further interruptions. Each of these incidents has highlighted the importance of effective infrastructure planning and redundancy to enhance internet reliability.
CITRA reassures residents and businesses in Kuwait that proactive measures are being taken to minimize the effects of such events in the future and to strengthen the resilience of the country’s internet infrastructure against potential disruptions.
