Egypt’s exports to Arab nations up 8.7 percent in 2023, reaching $13.6 billion

The value of Egyptian exports to Arab countries surged in 2023 by 8.7 percent year-on-year (YoY) to reach $13.6 billion, according to new data.

Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported that Saudi Arabia topped the list of Arab countries importing the most from Egypt during the year, with the value of Egyptian exports to the Kingdom amounting to $2.7 billion.

This aligns with the significant growth in trade relations, partnerships, joint projects, and development investment between Egypt and Saudi Arabia in recent years.

The UAE was the second-largest importer of Egyptian goods in the Arab world, with exports reaching $2.2 billion. Libya imported $1.8 billion, Sudan imported $984.4 million, and Algeria imported $850.3 million worth of Egyptian products.

The top commodity groups exported to Arab countries in 2023 were vegetables and fruits ($1.3 billion), machinery and electrical appliances ($1.1 billion), pearls, precious stones and jewelry ($1 billion), and fuel, mineral oils and distillation products ($753 million). Egyptian exports of plastics and manufactures to Arab nations totaled $712 million.

On the imports side

The value of Egyptian imports from Arab countries reached $12.4 billion in 2023, down from $17 billion in 2022. Saudi Arabia was the largest exporter to Egypt, with imports amounting to $5.2 billion. Kuwait was second with $2.7 billion, followed by the UAE with $2.1 billion, Oman with $717.4 million, and Bahrain with $399.5 million.

The prominent commodity groups imported from Arab countries included fuel, mineral oils, and distillation products ($6 billion), plastics goods ($2 billion), recycled raw materials ($785.1 million), aluminum and its products ($399.2 million), and fish, oysters, and molluscs ($213.3 million).

Overall, the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Arab countries dropped 11.8 percent year-on-year to reach $26 billion in 2023.
