Qatar announced today that March 30 will mark the first day of Eid al-Fitr 2025. The Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs made the announcement that marks the end of Ramadan 2025 and the beginning of Shawwal, the 10th month on the Islamic calendar.
Earlier this month, Qatar’s Amiri Diwan announced that the Eid holiday for ministries, government agencies and public institutions will begin on Sunday, March 30, and end on Monday, April 7. Employees are to resume work on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. With the weekend typically being on Friday and Saturday for many employees, this means an extended 11-day break.
The Qatar Calendar House announced this month that March 30 was expected to be the first day of Eid al-Fitr 2025, according to astronomical calculations conducted by its specialists. Qatar Calendar House’s Executive Director Faisal Al Ansari said the crescent moon for this year’s Shawwal will be born on the evening of Saturday, March 29 at 1:58 PM Doha local time (10:58 AM GMT time).

Eid al-Fitr is a special occasion for Muslims and is a time for celebration with family and loved ones. It marks the end of the month of Ramadan, a period of month-long fasting for Muslims around the world, and the start of Shawwal, the tenth month in the Islamic calendar. Notably, Eid al-Fitr is among the two main holidays in Islam, the other being Eid al-Adha.
