Emirates, Avianca launch codeshare partnership through European gateways

Dubai-based Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, and Avianca, one of the largest Latin American carriers, have launched a new codeshare partnership. The partnership will allow Emirates and Avianca customers to enjoy seamless connectivity on multiple routes starting June 4.

Travelers flying on Emirates’ networks via Madrid, Barcelona or London Heathrow can now directly fly to three points in Colombia and enjoy other travel benefits that introduce more convenience.

Emirates and Avianca’s codeshare flights include Madrid to Bogotá, Medellin or Cali; Barcelona to Bogotá; London Heathrow to Bogotá.

“The codeshare agreement will enable us to expand our reach and allow our customers to use our services and fly to additional popular points in Colombia,” stated Adnan Kazim, deputy president and chief commercial officer, Emirates.

Seamless connectivity

Avianca will place its code on Emirates’ routes between Barcelona, Madrid or London Heathrow and Dubai. Meanwhile, the Colombian carrier’s customers will fly on Emirates’ widebody aircraft. They will also enjoy premium dining and lie-flat seats in premium cabins. Moreover, they will have access to an abundance of content on Emirates’ award-winning inflight entertainment system, featuring more than 6,500 channels of movies, shows, music and more, including in Spanish.

Avianca and Emirates customers will enjoy hassle-free booking for both airlines with a single ticket. Moreover, they will benefit from competitive fares and a single baggage policy.

For his part, Claudio Vélez, chief revenue officer, Avianca, said: “This collaboration will bring our region closer to Dubai via Europe and it will also strengthen Avianca’s operation in Barcelona, Madrid and London Heathrow.”

Emirates currently has commercial cooperation agreements with 161 interline, codeshare, and intermodal partners.
