In preparation for the arrival of its Airbus A350s, Emirates has committed approximately $48 million to acquire state-of-the-art equipment and systems designed to enhance pilot and cabin crew training.
Advanced simulator technology
The investment, according to a statement, includes three advanced full flight simulators equipped with cutting-edge pilot support systems (PSS), a fixed base training device, a cabin emergency evacuation trainer, and a door trainer. This initiative underscores the airline’s dedication to achieving the highest standards of excellence in crew training.
Pioneering pilot support systems
Notably, the PSS is a pioneering development, fully designed in-house by Emirates to optimize the training process. It enables trainees to engage in an interactive flight deck setup during the briefing phase, including the creation of a flight plan in an immersive environment. This setup is seamlessly integrated into the simulator experience, allowing trainees to continue their training effectively. Additionally, the PSS features a debrief mode that allows instructors to review recorded sessions, enhancing crew performance evaluation.
Achievements in simulation certification
Emirates’ first A350 full flight simulator has achieved a level D qualification—the highest standard for such simulators—from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), with initial certification completed without any findings, a remarkable achievement in the simulation field. This advanced technology not only boosts training efficiency but also equips pilots with the confidence to master the skills necessary for smooth operations.
Expanding the A350 fleet
Moreover, the airline has placed orders for three full flight simulators for its A350 fleet, with the second simulator currently undergoing onsite acceptance and scheduled for EASA approval in November.
Realistic training environment
Additionally, the A350 fixed base training device accurately replicates the flight deck, utilizing visual and audio systems to create realistic training scenarios.
Commitment to innovation in training
Capt. Bader Al Marzooqi, Emirates’ senior vice president of Flight Training, emphasized that innovation is at the heart of Emirates’ ethos. This commitment is reflected in the newly acquired A350 training equipment suites and the advanced pilot training facility set to open later this year.
He expressed pride in the potential to increase pilot training capacity by 54 percent. He also noted that with investments in new simulators and systems, pilots and cabin crew are well-prepared to handle operational challenges safely and competently.
Training milestones
Also, to date, the airline has trained nearly 30 pilots and 820 cabin crew members. By the end of November, over 50 pilots will have completed training on the A350 full-flight simulators ahead of the aircraft’s entry into service. Emirates’ training program is robust and evidence-based, delivered in-house by highly experienced instructors in specially designed environments.

Strategic partnerships for enhanced training
Furthermore, in June, Emirates announced a partnership with IATA and Airbus. This partnership aims to implement an enhanced Competency-Based Training and Assessment program for A350 type ratings.
Future growth and fleet expansion
Looking ahead, Emirates has also 65 A350s and 205 777Xs on order, supporting its growth ambitions and offering flexibility to expand new routes and improve existing ones.
New pilot training facility
The airline is set to unveil its advanced pilot training facility later this year, covering 63,318 square feet and accommodating six full-flight simulator bays for the A350 and Boeing 777X aircraft.
Comprehensive training capacity
Across its pilot training facilities, Emirates aviators will benefit from 17 full flight simulators,
providing over 130,000 training hours annually to refine their flying skills.
