FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp, a global prominent express transportation company, has made a AED1.3 billion ($353.93 million) investment in a modern air and ground hub at Dubai World Central (DWC) Airport in Dubai South.

Long-term economic investment
According to the Government of Dubai Media Office, the opening of this hub represents a significant long-term investment in the UAE’s economy, focusing on infrastructure and technological advancements within the facility. Also, this investment demonstrates FedEx’s dedication to the UAE’s economic growth, aligning with the “National Agenda for Non-oil Export Development,” which aims to boost the country’s foreign trade.
FedEx’s new hub at Dubai World Central spans an impressive 57,000 square meters. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, including automated sorting systems. In addition, these advanced systems greatly enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and speed of package processing and distribution.
AI-equipped high-speed X-ray machines
Among its features, the hub includes two AI-equipped, high-speed x-ray machines that efficiently scan goods to enhance security. Additionally, there is a 170-square-meter cold storage area catering to temperature-sensitive shipments.
The facility was officially inaugurated by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, chairman of Dubai Airports, chairman, and chief executive of Emirates Airline and Group, alongside Raj Subramaniam, FedEx Corporation president and CEO, Richard W Smith, FedEx Express president and CEO, Airline and International, and Kami Viswanathan, FedEx Express MEISA president.
Sustainability commitment
In line with its commitment to sustainability and the goal of achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2040, the new FedEx hub adheres to Dubai Municipality Green Standards. Moreover, it includes a solar power project and a building management system to ensure efficient energy use.
Furthermore, FedEx is leveraging electric ground service fleets and installing electric charging stations for pick-up, delivery, and employee vehicles.
Located in DWC, at the core of Dubai South, the hub plays a crucial role in the region’s aviation and logistics ecosystem. Its strategic positioning is further enhanced by a comprehensive multi-modal transportation network, seamlessly connecting air, land, and sea.
