Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) has announced the successful completion of the installation of smart meters for all its customers, with around 40 percent of these meters now integrated into the company’s smart systems.

Accelerating integration timeline

Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of Etihad Water and Electricity, indicated that the company is actively working to connect all new meters to the EtihadWE smart systems in the near future, which would significantly enhance the quality and efficiency of services offered to customers. He mentioned that the original goal had been to link all meters to smart systems by 2026, but EtihadWE is now aiming to accelerate this timeline and achieve full integration by the end of 2025.

Importance of smart technology

In an interview with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) at Gitex Global 2024, Al Ali emphasized that these smart meters, which monitor both electricity and water, represent an important initial step toward delivering advanced services to customers. He remarked that digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) have become integral to the company’s operations, noting that the newly installed smart meters mark a significant advancement.

Benefits for customers

Al Ali also pointed out that the current integration of approximately 40 percent is already allowing customers to better manage their consumption, as well as providing alerts to identify potential faults or leaks early, thereby minimizing possible damages and losses.

Strategic partnership for data center

Additionally, Al Ali highlighted a key development this year: a strategic partnership with Khazna aimed at establishing one of the largest data centers in the Middle East. Located in the Emirate of Ajman, this center will prioritize AI applications, with EtihadWE serving as the primary electricity provider for the facility.
