The Gulf Craft Majesty 160 is one of the shipyard's newest projects.

The global yacht market currently exceeds AED 40 billion ($11 billion). And it could increase to over AED 80 billion ($21 billion) in the next decade. While the industry has long been dominated by shipyards and yacht architects from Europe, the GCC proudly hosts a global player, Gulf Craft.

With Mohammed Alshaali in the wheelhouse, Gulf Craft has evolved from humble beginnings in 1982. Among its many accomplishments, the company holds the distinction of creating the Majesty 175. It is the world’s largest mega-yacht made of composite materials. Today, Gulf Craft ranks among the top seven shipyards globally and aspires to secure a position in the top 5 by 2025.

The Majesty 160 is its next big project. This is currently underway at the fully integrated in-house production facility at Umm Al Quwain. The mono-hull yacht, constructed with Fiber Reinforced Plastics, is scheduled for delivery to her GCC owner by 2026. Cristiano Gatto Design Studio in Italy took charge of the design. Meanwhile, the Dutch Van Oossanen oversaw its naval architecture.

The details

While some adjustments can still take place between now and delivery, here is what we know so far.

At an overall length of 50 meters and a beam of 9 meters, the Majesty 160 can comfortably accommodate 14 guests and nine crew. It has seven cabins, including the owner’s stateroom, and a further five for the captain and crew. Coming in at 498 gross tonnage (GT), it is built to the specifications of the Bureau Veritas Commercial Yacht Rules for yachts under 500 GT. Propelling the 160 are twin 2,000 HP engines. Meanwhile, four generators with a total output of 300 kW will provide uninterrupted electricity. Estimated performance is a top speed of 19 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots with a range of 3,500 nautical miles or 4,200 nautical miles at 10 knots.

The interior and exterior

Bright and airy interiors with large windows in the main saloon lead to the 10-seater formal dining area. Combining large interior space and natural light creates a seamless balance between the outdoors and indoors.

Heading into the full-beam owner’s suite comprises three distinct areas and features a retractable balcony. On the starboard side, a study with a window allows spectacular views on one side. Meanwhile, you can find the dressing room on the other. Moving forward, a separate sitting area leads into the large bedroom. This allows as much natural light as possible while maintaining the owner’s privacy.

When it comes to the exterior, the yacht features three decks and unique lines. This sets it apart from anything the shipyard has previously constructed. The pronounced angle of the exterior line, extending from the stern to the bow, is bold and sharp. At the rear, the beach club connects to the garage. It can either house water sports equipment or something more imaginative, depending on the owner’s preference. The beach club includes deployable side extensions that expand the surface area. This creates private sun decks on both sides. The top deck houses an infinity pool, additional sundecks and recreational areas.

The future of yachting

As Gulf Craft continues to push the boundaries of luxury and innovation with the Majesty 160, the insights from Alshaali shed light on broader trends shaping the future of yachting.

“Gulf Craft’s growth will focus on our key markets: the U.S., Asia/Australasia, Europe and the GCC. We’re investing in new facilities in the Maldives to boost our presence in Asia. This move will streamline exports, enhancing our position in the region. With clear goals and strategic plans, Gulf Craft is set for dynamic expansion in the global yachting market,” Alshaali said.

Commenting on the current and future trends in the industry as a whole, he added, “In the yachting industry’s push for sustainability, progress has been made, but challenges persist. While strides have been taken in reducing generator use and using eco-friendly materials, improving propulsion remains a key focus.”

“Meeting yacht users’ power needs requires ongoing innovation. As industry leaders, we’re dedicated to advancing sustainability, with propulsion development central to our quest for a greener future on the water,” he said.

“Today, more yachters crave adventure. They’re seeking freedom from the usual, driving up demand for expedition-style yachts. These boats allow exploration of remote coastlines and ocean crossings, creating unforgettable experiences. This essence fuels global interest in our adventure yacht brand, Nomad Yachts,” Alshaali added.
