UAE introduces new service for ID, passport renewal

Individuals can now renew their Emirates ID card and passport from outside the UAE through a new service launched by the UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security. This change has been long-awaited and will allow for more convenient and accessible renewal processes for these important documents.

During an interview with “Noor Dubai” radio station, Nasser Ahmed Al-Abdouli, Director of Customer Happiness Management at the UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP), said that to avail of this service, applicants must personally submit their application for the transaction via the authority’s smart application on their mobile phones. Moreover, they must ensure that they are the rightful owners of the documents.

This service enables individuals to renew their Emirates ID/passport from abroad, and complete the transaction seamlessly by submitting their application and paying the fee. However, if the application is submitted through printing centers or by someone other than the transaction owner within the country, and it is discovered that the person is outside the UAE, the application will be rejected.

The authority has nine criteria for personal photos submitted through their smart systems, including wearing official attire, using a white background, and maintaining a neutral facial expression. Photos must be recent, high-quality, and meet specific guidelines regarding head position, eye contact, and image resolution.
