Airport services provider dnata has announced the successful integration of autonomous drones at Dubai’s major airports. This strategic initiative marks a significant leap forward in operational efficiency, delivering remarkable benefits for airline customers.
Enhanced operational efficiency
The integration of autonomous drones into dnata’s cargo operations has yielded impressive results. This includes a 20 percent reduction in processing times on rack inventories and over 99 percent accuracy in shipment tracking. This advancement underscores dnata’s dedication to streamlining workflows at both Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC) airports.
Besides, dnata was the first cargo services provider to introduce drones to its cargo operations in the UAE in 2021. The drones have seamlessly integrated into the day-to-day workflow and warehouse inventory processes. On average, dnata’s drones monitor almost 1,800 shipments daily with 99 percent accuracy across 2,400 rack locations.
Commenting on the achievement, Guillaume Crozier, dnata’s senior vice president for UAE Cargo and Global Cargo Strategy stated: “The precision and reliability of these drones have surpassed our expectations, leading to a transformative impact on our efficiency levels.”
Pioneering innovation
Gather AI‘s innovative software enables dnata’s autonomous drones to map the environment and collect inventory using only their cameras. Moreover, the drones can count cases, measure temperature, and read barcodes without the need for any additional active infrastructure. In addition, the drones are paired to a tablet device providing live inventory data. The collected data can be viewed directly on the tablet or the web dashboard, via a user-friendly application.
Aside from improving operational efficiency, dnata’s autonomous drones have contributed to a reduction in carbon footprint. Moreover, they have enhanced safety by minimizing the need for traditional equipment like mobile elevating work platforms and man lifts in the warehouse.
Furthermore, dnata’s autonomous drones can operate at temperatures between 0 Celsius and +50 Celsius degrees within a closed environment. This enables dnata to utilize the technology in its state-of-the-art cool chain facilities, too. dnata has plans to introduce them at further stations across its global cargo network in the next years.
