Inflation in Oman rises 0.9 percent in May 2024

Oman’s inflation rose 0.9 percent in May 2024 compared to May 2023 following a 0.4 percent annual increase in April. The latest consumer price index data from the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) reveals that the group that saw the greatest rise in prices was the food and non-alcoholic beverages group. Prices in this group saw a 3.8 percent increase during May.

The Oman inflation data also reveals a 3.3 percent increase in prices of miscellaneous goods and services, and a 2.4 percent increase in health prices. Culture and entertainment saw a 0.6 percent increase, tobacco prices rose 0.6 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas, and other types of fuel rose 0.4 percent, restaurants and hotel prices saw a 0.3 percent increase, and clothing and shoe prices rose 0.1 percent.

Meanwhile, prices in the transportation group declined by 1.6 percent, education prices declined by 0.4 percent, and communications prices were down by 0.2 percent in May 2024.

Regionally, Oman’s North Al Sharqiyah Governorate saw inflation rise to 2.1 percent, marking North Al Sharqiyah as the governorate with the highest increase in inflation in May. Following closely came Musandam Governorate at 1.6 percent, Dhofar Governorate at 1.4 percent, and North Al Batinah at 1.4 percent.

In Al Wusta Governorate and Al Buraimi Governorate, inflation rose to 1.3 percent. Meanwhile, South Al Batinah Governorate’s inflation reached 1.2 percent. Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate’s inflation rose to 0.90 percent, while Ad Dhahirah Governorate’s rose to 0.8 percent. Inflation rose to 0.7 percent in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, and 0.6 percent in Muscat Governorate.
