In a landmark collaboration, Egypt and Jordan are set to enhance their digital connectivity with the Coral Bridge submarine cable. This groundbreaking project marks the first collaboration of this kind in 25 years between the two countries.

Egypt and Jordan will build a maritime communications bridge between Aqaba in Jordan and Taba in Egypt. This bridge will significantly boost artificial intelligence (AI) applications and data center demands.

International communications

The cable plays a significant role in expanding the countries’ international presence. It serves as a vital gateway for international communications between Asia, Africa, and Europe. Hence, the infrastructure between Taba and Aqaba could become a key focal point, with multiple submarine cables and expansion plans.

The implementation of the Coral Bridge submarine cable will integrate the geographical competitive advantages of Egypt as an international gateway from East to West. Moreover, it will utilize Jordan as a crucial passage for the Levant, Iraq, and Gulf countries. This connection serves as a convergence point between Asia and Europe. Therefore, it provides alternatives for international communication through Egypt’s infrastructure and the Aqaba Digital Hub.

Cable design

The Coral Bridge submarine cable is designed with high technical specifications, creating a major project with unique competitive advantages. The short distance between the landing points and its capacity to accommodate a large number of optical fibers for international traffic positions it as a critical component for the growing demands of AI applications and data centers.

Telecom Egypt, the first integrated communications operator in Egypt; and NaiTel, a leading telecommunications service provider in Jordan, have inked an agreement to establish the Coral Bridge submarine cable. The initiative aims to capitalize on the strategic location of Jordan and NaiTel’s expertise in infrastructure, reinforcing Egypt’s international presence.
