Take the MC20’s butterfly doors for example, these are a striking example of form meeting function, allowing not only for easy entry but creating a dramatic profile. The unique Maserati Twin Combustion (MTC) technology is derived from Formula 1 with twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter and a V6 arranged at a 90-degree angle. It produces 630 hp and 731 Nm of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, the MC20 can bolt from 0 to 100 km/h in under 2.9 seconds, with a top speed of over 325 km/h.

The innovative pre-chamber combustion system, also unique in road cars, ensures peak efficiency and power output, making the Nettuno engine a beacon of automotive engineering. The MC20 handles like a true race car, the lightweight carbon fiber monocoque ensures best-in-class weight-to-power ratio without compromising on comfort or luxury. As a matter of fact, it is one of the most comfortable supercars we’ve ever driven. This chassis design is versatile, supporting the MC20’s various configurations, whether the coupé, cielo’, the limited edition Icona and Leggenda or the more than likely MC20 Folgore.

The interior

The interior is a blend of luxury and efficiency, with customizable options that reflect the owner’s personal style. In terms of the cockpit, it is no-nonsense and very race-like while retaining the refinement one expects from Maserati. The refreshingly different MIA (Maserati Intelligent Assistant) multimedia system uses Google’s Android Automotive operating system. You get two screens, one directly in front of the driver serving as the gauge cluster measuring 10.3-inches.

A second MIA dedicated touchscreen sits to the center holding the same dimensions. The Maserati Connect app which can be paired to your mobile device comes in handy for remote updates and information, 24/7 around the clock.

The drive

Navigating the cockpit is straightforward, with intuitive controls that enhance the driving experience. You get four distinct driving modes, easily selectable from the center console: WET, GT, SPORT, and CORSA. Each mode is color-coded for quick identification. The power delivery is unpredictable and reminds me of the supercars we would have driven two decades ago, but with all the modern tech. There’s abundant feedback from the tarmac where you fully connected to the road and the speed is sensational, though the V6 engine’s sound might not be as pronounced as some might expect.

For the adrenaline seekers, selecting manual gear shifts with the CORSA mode engaged is recommended. This setting amplifies the thrilling drive and the rather pleasing sound of the turbo engine. In SPORT mode, you only get 7 gears, whereas CORSA mode offers even less, 6 gears. Overall, whatever mode you may engage the 8-speed dual clutch gearbox shifts instantly, ensuring an exhilarating ride. In CORSA mode, drivers can also adjust the dampers to mid or stiff settings, both of which provide a surprisingly comfortable ride. The brakes are race car quality, requiring a firm press to stop the vehicle efficiently. The gauge cluster even displays brake pressure, offering additional feedback for the driver.

Overall, the MC20 is light and nimble, thanks to its perfectly tuned suspension featuring double wishbones all around. For those long drives, cruise control is easily accessible via the steering wheel. While rear visibility is limited, the digital mirror compensates effectively, and not to forget there is the all essential nose-lift.
