His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice chairman of Dubai Health, has officially inaugurated the opening of Medlab Middle East. This event, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre until February 8th, is the largest laboratory exhibition and congress in the region. It plays a crucial role in advancing the field of laboratory medicine both locally and globally.

The 2024 edition of Medlab Middle East boasts the participation of over 900 exhibiting companies from more than 40 countries. These companies will showcase the latest laboratory innovations across eight product categories, including Disposables and Consumer Goods, Emergency Medicine, Imaging and Diagnostics, Healthcare and General Services, IT, Laboratory, Medical Equipment and Devices, and Pharma and Nutrition.

Tom Coleman, senior exhibition director of the Medlab Series at Informa Markets, commented on the opening of the 23rd edition of Medlab Middle East. He stated, “Last year was a record-breaking year for Medlab Middle East, where AED1.9 billion [$517.28 billion] of deals were secured. Following on from this success, we are expecting a 20 percent increase in visitor numbers this year, with an estimated 30,000 attendees, and we have some exciting new additions to the event which will elevate opportunities for knowledge-sharing and business-building even further.”

In line with Medlab Middle East’s dedication to innovation, a new NextGen Medicine Zone and Conference have been included in this year’s exhibition in collaboration with EXPRESSMED Diagnostics and Research, based in Bahrain. The NextGen Medicine zone occupies 1,500 sqm of exhibition space and features over 100 exhibitors. Additionally, a new NextGen Medicine track has been added to the Medlab Middle East Congress.

Global laboratory industry experts

The Medlab Middle East Congress stands as the only multi-disciplinary congress in the region. It offers 12 CME-accredited live in-person conferences led by over 130 laboratory industry experts from around the world. Spanning the four-day exhibition, the conference tracks cover a wide range of topics, including NextGen Medicine, Laboratory Management, Lab Quality Management, Clinical Chemistry, Immunology, Haematology, Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Genomic Interpretation, Blood Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Future of Lab, and Sustainability in the Lab.

Reshaping future of laboratories and diagnostics industry

On February 5, the opening morning of Medlab Middle East, Frost & Sullivan, a growth strategy consulting firm, hosted a Think Tank session on “Strategic Investments and Growth Opportunities: Reshaping the Future of Laboratories and Diagnostics Industry in the Middle East.” Esteemed healthcare leaders from companies such as Abbott, Randox, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and the Cleveland Clinic attended the event. The panel discussed industry-related topics, including the key drivers and challenges for the laboratories and diagnostics sectors in the Middle East, as well as the technologies expected to drive industry growth in the future.

Furthermore, Dr. Bernie Croal, president-elect of The Royal College of Pathologists in the United Kingdom (U.K.), delivered a presentation on “Strategies to Ensure Focused and Safe Lab Testing” at the Laboratory Management Conference. Dr. Lubna AlZadjali, consultant hematopathologist from the Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Muscat, spoke at the Haematology Conference on the topic of Haematology laboratory information systems.

Medlab Middle East is held in Za’abeel Halls 1-7 at the Dubai World Trade Centre and showcases renowned global manufacturers and established laboratory suppliers. Some of the featured brands include Abbott, Beckman Coulter, Purelab, and the Gulf Scientific Corporation.
