The Ministry of Economy organized a workshop on the ‘Zero Government Bureaucracy’ program to discuss the mechanisms for the program’s implementation.

The workshop discussed several innovative ideas and visions as participants, including the ministry employees, partners and customers, conducted a review of the policies, procedures and requirements for all ministry services with the aim of simplifying them and reducing turnaround times.

The session also discussed an action plan that will extend till the end of this year, in line with the general plan for the zero-bureaucracy program in the country. It will conclude with a comprehensive evaluation to gauge the impact of the improvement measures.

Zero-bureaucracy program

The UAE government launched the ‘Zero Government Bureaucracy’ program with an aim to streamline and simplify government procedures by eliminating unnecessary procedures and requirements.

Under the program, government departments have to eliminate 2,000 unnecessary procedures within a year. Moreover, the program aims to simultaneously cut the time it takes to carry out services by 50 percent.

As part of the initiative, bonuses of up to AED1 million ($272,000) will be awarded to employees or teams showcasing exceptional performance in raising standards and reducing unnecessary procedures, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said last month.

Badreya Al Maidoor, Assistant Undersecretary for the Support Services Sector at the Ministry of Economy, inaugurated the ministry’s workshop. Also present were Abdullah Sultan Al Fan Al Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Commercial Control and Governance Sector; Maria Hanif, Assistant Undersecretary for the Policy and Economic Studies Sector; and Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Muaini, Assistant Undersecretary for the Intellectual Property Sector, and a number of partners and dealers.
