Mubadala Investment Company and Safran, a prominent French aerospace and defense firm, have united to propel aerospace innovation and development in the UAE.

This collaboration was unveiled during the Abu Dhabi Air Expo and is centered around a strategic framework agreement that highlights crucial areas such as Maintenance, Manufacturing, Human Capital Development, Advanced Materials, and Space.

The partnership aims to harness Mubadala’s established aerospace assets, including Strata Manufacturing and Sanad, while integrating Safran’s expertise to transform the aerospace sector. This collaboration will significantly enhance Sanad’s capabilities and pave the way for new partnerships across Safran’s broad aerospace portfolio.

Expanding manufacturing capabilities

Moreover, the partnership seeks to expand Strata’s current strengths in aircraft structure manufacturing to encompass engine component manufacturing, thereby complementing Mubadala’s extensive aerospace portfolio.

Commitment to local talent development

An important focus of this alliance is the development of local talent through collaborative training programs for Emirati engineers and aerospace professionals.

Opportunities in space and advanced materials

With a strong emphasis on space, this partnership opens avenues in air traffic management, Earth observation, and propulsion systems. It also bolsters capabilities within Strata Solvay Advanced Materials, with a focus on advanced materials for engine applications, thereby reinforcing the UAE’s stature in aerospace materials science.

Enhancing Abu Dhabi’s aerospace hub status

Ismail Ali Abdulla, executive director of UAE Clusters at Mubadala’s UAE Investments Platform, expressed delight in strengthening the long-standing partnership with Safran, recognizing it as a leader in global aerospace. He noted that as a national investor, Mubadala is committed to diversifying the UAE’s economy by fostering world-class national champions and driving innovation in high-growth sectors.

He further emphasized that this agreement serves to bolster Abu Dhabi’s status as a leading aerospace hub and underscores the mutual commitment to upskilling local talent, preparing the next generation of engineers and professionals to excel in the global aerospace industry.

Philippe Errera, EVP of International Development and Government Relations at Safran, remarked that the strategic framework agreement represents a significant milestone in the collaboration with Mubadala. By joining forces, they are enhancing their ability to support technological advancements, cultivate a skilled workforce, and promote aerospace excellence under the ‘Made in the UAE’ brand.
